Police plan pinwheel garden to recognize Child Abuse month

In recognition of National Child Abuse Awareness month, the Sweet Home Police Department will plant a pinwheel garden on Friday.

“We would like to have local residents come and show support of children in our community,” said Community Services Officer Gina Riley.

Chief Lynn will kick off the ceremony with a short welcome at 1 p.m.

The pinwheel garden is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Sweet Home.

The pinwheels symbolize the innocence and happiness of a healthy childhood, Riley said. Pinwheels for the garden may be purchased for $1. There will also be paper pinwheels for kids to make and color at the department. These pinwheels can be planted in the garden or taken home to show support.

“We would also like to ask local businesses to send a representative to the pinwheel planting and to turn their storefronts blue for the month of April,” Riley said.
