OSU needs Family

Food Educators

Oregon State Extension is seeking Family Food Educator volunteers to prepare quick and healthy Food Hero recipes and share samples at local food pantry sites.

Volunteers will pick up an ingredient and supply box from the OSU Extension office in Eugene, prepare the recipe in their own home, and share food samples at a FOOD for Lane County emergency food pantry site once per month for an hour or two.

Interested volunteers will be paired up with an experienced volunteer to visit several FOOD for Lane County emergency food pantry sites and learn more about the program. Training will be provided in Eugene.

Jim Riggs clean-up

Volunteers are needed to help with a clean-up at the Jim Riggs Community Center at 9 a.m. Friday, March 28.

Boys and Girls Club members will be helping with the effort, but anyone else, from children to senior citizens, is invited to help.

A gospel concert will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Sweet Home Church of the Nazarene, 415 Holley Road.

Musical evening in

SH this Saturday

Sweet Home Song and Grind, an evening of music and coffee, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at 109 West Holley Road (Fir Lawn Lutheran Church) in the lower level.

Come enjoy live music by a variety of local musicians in a coffee house atmosphere. The event is free and everyone is welcome. Bluegrass concert

to benefit homeless

ChristWalk Ministries will offer some toe tappin’ gospel bluegrass harmonies at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at The River Center, 3000 S. Santiam Highway, Lebanon.

Admission is $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more.

The event is a fund-rasier for ChristWalk, a nonprofit faith-based organization providing needy individuals with resources and services. It provides a transitional home for homeless women and two apartments for families. For more information, visit http://www.lebemsh.org.

Drivers ed training

offered by LBCC

Registration is being accepted for Drivers Education held at Linn-Benton Community College’s Sweet Home, Albany and Corvallis campuses.

Approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation, LBCC’s course includes state-mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting, plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation.

Registration requirements include completed packet, fee, original driver permit and one photocopy. Registration packets are available at all centers or online at http://www.linnbenton.edu/driver-education.

Students must register in person at one of the campuses. No online registration available.

Cost for the course is $259 for ages 17 and under, $429 for ages 18 and over. For refund, class must be dropped 24 hours prior to start.

Dog Obedience

class at LBCC

Dog Obedience classes will be held through the Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center this spring.

The 10-week class meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. beginning April 3 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St. Cost is $39.

It will cover basic commands and equipment, socialization, rewarding good behavior, breaking bad behavior, games and tricks, and responsible pet ownership. Veterinary shot records and dog history form required, and are available at the center.

‘Life Stories’ class offered in SH

The writing class “Life Stories” will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College Community Education starting April 2.

Learn how to write your family history descriptively and in your own narrative style. Information on how to publish will be provided.

This 10-week class will meet at the LBCC Sweet Home Center Thursdays from 2 to 3:50 p.m. beginning April 4. Cost is $58.

It will also meet Tuesday afternoons in Albany and Wednesdays in Lebanon.

Help clear ivy from

local trails April 5

Sweet Home Trails and the city Tree Commission are sponsoring an Ivy Pull from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 5.

Meet at the entry to Canyon Creek subdivision on the south end of 10th Avenue to work on the South Hills Trail. Bring gloves and cutting tools (pruners, loppers and hand saws). Screwdrivers or small pry bars are also helpful. Refreshments will be served when the work is done.

LBCC classes for small businesses

A free orientation for a MicroBiz Explore class will be offered by the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College April 1.

Explore the possibilities of starting your own business. The 10-week class starts April 8, from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Thursdays. Cost is based on income, and is determined and paid at orientation.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The lunch menu on Friday, March 28, is breaded fish patty with dill sauce or ham with orange glaze, Delmonico potatoes, broccoli cuts, wheat bread and lemon cake.

The menu for Monday, March 31, is turkey loaf or country fried steak, both with gravy, Colcannon potatoes, mixed vegetables, wheat bread and coconut pudding.

The menu for Tuesday, April 1, is scalloped potatoes and ham or sweet and sour chicken with rice, green peas, spinach Romaine salad, whole wheat roll and fresh orange. cake.
