LBCC government business workshop
The workshop “Growing Your Business with Federal Contracts” will be offered through Linn-Benton Community College from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center, room CC-103, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW. Cost is $19.
Designed for small business owners, this workshop covers the basics of contracting with the government. Topics include potential and current markets, federal, state and local target markets, codes and regulations of government contracting, finding project leads, subsidies, set-asides and preferential bidding, and how to get started.

Genealogy seminar this weekend in SH
Sweet Home Genealogical Society will hold its 34th annual Genealogical Workshop Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15, at the Genealogical Library.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the first session at 10:30. Lunch will be catered by the Corner Cup Cafe.
Speakers will include Duane Funk, Fred Schafer, Frank Farmer, Gary Smith, Gale Seifert, Sue Chenoweth and Kiamichi. Topics on Friday will focus on the Civil War, ships and immigration and the National Association of Atomic Veterans. Saturday’s themes will be Cherokee and Choctaw heritage, and genealogical research challenges and questions.

Texas Hold ’Em
at B&G Club
The Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Santiam is hosting an “All In for Kids” Texan Hold ’Em Poker tournament at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at the Lebanon clubhouse, 305 S. 5th Street, Lebanon.
A $100 buy-in includes chips, pizza and two drink tickets. Re-buy is $50 and the add-on fee is $21.
This event to benefit the club is for adults 21 and over.

Local kindergarten
sign-ups next week
Parents with children planning to attend kindergarten at Oak Heights Elementary during the 2014-15 school year are invited to attend the school’s Kindergarten Round Up at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.
Dinner and child care will be provided during the event. Parents who are unable to attend are encouraged to contact the school at (541) 367-7165 to pre-register their child and to schedule an orientation meeting.
Kindergarten registration for Holley Elementary School will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17. Foster and Hawthorne schools plan to hold kindergarten registration in May. An announcement on the Sweet Home School District website will be published when the days and times are confirmed.
GED classes start
March 31 at LBCC
Free orientation sessions for Linn-Benton Community College GED and Adult Basic Education classes will be held starting next week at the LBCC Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St.
Sweet Home Center orientations dates are March 18, March 31, April 1, or April 2 from 9 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., or 6 to 9:50 p.m. Morning classes will meet Monday and Wednesday from 9 to 11:20 a.m., and evening classes meet Monday and Wednesday, 6-8:20 p.m.
A $30 enrollment fee is due at orientation.

Tractor training for teens at LBCC
Tractor and Farm Machinery Safety training will be held at Linn-Benton Community College beginning March 26.
Geared for farm workers ages 14 to 18, the course is developed and operated with assistance from Oregon State University Extension Service in accordance with federal regulations.
Students and parents must sign a Liability Waiver/Indemnification form within 24 hours of registration.
Two course sessions will be offered, with the first session beginning March 26 and the second session beginning June 30. Sessions meet Wednesday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m., at LBCC’s Albany campus, Forum building room F-113, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW.
Cost is $96.50. Preregistration is required. Students must be at least 14 to register.

Women’s farming conference at OSU
OSU Extension Service Small Farm program and Oregon Women for Agriculture will host a site in Corvallis for the 2014 Women in Agriculture Conference on Saturday, March 15.
The conference offers women in Oregon, Washington and Idaho a unique opportunity to gather in 28 locations for a one-day event featuring knowledgeable speakers, inspiring stories, practical advice for improving farm management skills and networking with other women producers.

Sheriff’s Citizens Academy sign-ups
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office will offer its 31st Citizens Academy from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, from April 2 through June 11 at the sheriff’s office.
The academy will touch on all aspects of the sheriff’s office and is a great opportunity to interact with office staff and learn more about the services the sheriff’s office provides to the community.

CASA info meeting
Monday in Lebanon
Court Appointed Special Advocates will hold an orientation meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, at the CASA office, 2122 ½ S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
CASA is a volunteer organization that serves abused and neglected children who are in foster care. CASAs are interested in meaningful volunteer opportunity that will make a positive impact in the life of a child and are trained to advocate for the best interest of abused children and help ensure they are placed in safe permanent homes.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, March 14, is potato and ham mini salad or seafood Louie salad on spinach Romaine, pinto bean soup, wheat roll and hermit bar.
The menu for Monday, March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day, is hearty chicken stew or beef cabbage bake, green peas, broccoli slaw, caraway rye roll and shamrock cake.
The menu for Tuesday, March 18, is chicken patty or liver and onions, both with gravy, whipped potatoes, steamed carrots, oatmeal bread and lemon pudding.
