Night
Thursday
The
Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club Family Night Out at the Club,
originally planned for Thursday, Sept. 5, has been rescheduled for
Thursday, Sept. 19.
It
will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Club, 890 18th Ave. The
original event was postponed due to the severe thunderstorm that hit
the area Sept. 5.
Everyone is welcome. No membership required and
event is free. There will be games, a bounce house, dance-off,
spaghetti dinner and more.
Tickets
on sale for Raffle to help Rio
The
Help the Rio Committee will sell raffle tickets to raise funds to
assist the theater, which needs to purchase a new digital projector
to continue showing newly released movies in Sweet Home.
The
Fun Raffle for Free Admission and Treats will kick off Thursday,
Sept. 19, at the Boys and Girls Club Family Night Out at the Club
(see above).
Tickets
are $1 each, or $5 for six. The Grand Prize will be eight free passes
for two, plus two Rio special treat vouchers. First prize is four
free passes for two, plus a Rio treat special. Two other prizes, for
a family four-pass, will be awarded.
Tickets
will also be available at the Saturday Market in the Thriftway
parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at the Oct. 5 Harvest
Festival.
The
drawing will be held at the Rio on Nov. 2.

Chronic
conditions
class
starting
A
six-week workshop Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions
Self-Management Program begins Thursday, Sept. 19, from 12:30 to
2:50 p.m. at the Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center, 44
Industrial Way.
This
workshop is for people with ongoing health conditions such as
diabetes, asthma, emphysema, heart conditions, high blood pressure,
MS, etc.

[email protected]. Co-sponsored by LBCC and Samaritan Health
Services in parnership with Linn and Benton County Health
Departments.

A
National Public Lands Day event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 28, at Foster Lake.

Symphony
to play
this
weekend
The
Willamette Valley Symphony will perform in Albany at 7 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 21, and in Corvallis at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
The
orchestra will perform Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Tres Viejos Aires de
Dance”, Felix Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 4 in A Major
(Italian)” and Johann Baptist Vanhal’s “Concerto for Two
Bassoons and Orchestra in F Major,” featuring oboists Kerry Mammone
and Christina Larson.
The
Saturday evening performance will be at the First Christian Church
of Albany, 432 SW Ferry St. Sunday afternoon’s performance will be
at Ashbrook Independent School, 4045 SW Research Way, in Corvallis.
Admission
is $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors 65 and older, and
free for children 12 and under.

Scouting
groups taking members
A
Girl Scout Open House will take place Sunday, Sept. 22 from 1:30 to
2:30 p.m. at the Sweet Home Police Department, 1950 Main St.
Also,
the Cub Scouts are accepting new members, who can sign up at any
time.

board to set goals Monday
The
District 55 School Board will meet in a work session at 5:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 23, to set 2013-14 district goals.

and Learn starts Sept. 23
A
free Lunch and Learn series will be held from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m.
beginning Sept. 23 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
Topics
of this series include: Cottonwoods Ballroom, Willamette Valley
Pleistocene Project, Oregon Donation Land Claim Pioneers, and more. A

Welcome Day Sept. 25
Linn-Benton
Community College will hold a “Welcome Day” open house on
Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Albany campus,
6500 Pacific Blvd.
Activities
begin with choir and theater performances in the Russell Tripp
Performance Center, displays by campus clubs in the courtyard, a
fashion show with free pizza in the Commons cafeteria and a self-led
campus scavenger hunt. Also, attendees will have opportunities to win
prizes.

Sept.

A
Shooting Fund-raiser hosted by Friends of Sherrie Sprenger will be
held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Albany Rifle and
Pistol Club, 29999 Saddle Butte Road, Shedd.
Bring
your own gun or use one provided. Finger food will be available.
Suggested donation is $30. Checks payable to Friends of Sherrie

A
variety of art classes will be offered this fall through Linn-Benton
Community College’s Lebanon and Sweet Home Centers.
“Watercolor
Foundations” will meet Mondays beginning Sept. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30
p.m. at the Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way, and from 1 to 3:30
p.m. at the Sweet Home Center, 1661 Long St. Class will also meet at
the Brownsville Art Association Studio, 255 Main St., Thursdays from
5:30 to 7:50 p.m. beginning Oct. 3. Cost for this eight-week class is
$65.
“Calligraphy”
class will be held at the Sweet Home Center Tuesdays from 1 to 3:20
p.m. beginning Oct. 1. Cost for this 10-week class is $64.

Elks
Club hosting
Back
to School bash
The
Sweet Home Elks Lodge will host a Back to School Fair from 4 to 7
p.m., 440 Osage St. , on Monday, Sept. 30.
This
event is free. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served. Play games
to win supplies for your school. This event is for students, parents
and teachers in the Sweet Home School District, Charter and Central
Linn schools grades K-6. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Caregivers
class in Lebanon Oct. 15
A
six-week class, “Powerful Tools for Caregivers,” will meet every
Tuesday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. beginning on Oct. 15 at the Lebanon
Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
This
program helps family caregivers reduce stress, improve
self-confidence, communicate feelings better, balance their lives,
increase their ability to make tough decisions and locate helpful
resources.
Participants
will receive a free copy of the Caregiver Helpbook developed in
thanks to a community grant from Family Connections at LBCC.

Meals
on Wheels weekly menu
Meals
on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the
Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Fridays.
The
Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time
diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested
donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea
upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The
lunch menu on Friday, Sept. 20, is chicken Spanish rice or shepherd’s
pie, Harvard beets, spinach Romaine salad, potato wheat roll and
vanilla pudding.
The
menu for Monday, Sept. 23, is chicken pomodoro or beef enchilada
bake, broccoli and carrots, marinated zucchini salad, cracked wheat
roll and butterscotch bar.
The
menu for Tuesday, Sept. 24, is turkey club mini salad or chicken and
pasta salad on spinach Romaine, Popeye potato soup, wheat roll and
spiced apples.
