One of the first projects Mrs. Cheryl Jones’ third grade class at Oak Heights Elementary gets to do every school year is build a bridge using their own imagination and, maybe, a little help from mom and dad.
This was the first year third grade teacher Mrs. Laurel Adams participated in the project.
“Mrs. Jones said they love the bridge project and it’s a really huge thing,” Adams said.
Prior to building their bridges, the classes read the book, “Pop’s Bridge,” a story about two boys whose fathers take part in building and painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Then the students can choose whether they want to build their own bridge.
Aria said she learned she had to find the right materials to make it stable, and others said their bridges didn’t turn out the way they originally planned. Iaiah said his bridge would be best suited for going over a river, while Tyler said his is for the ocean. About half of the group agreed they had a really good time doing the project, and about half of the group said Junior’s bridge was the best.
“I think it was super awesome,” Adams said. “They went way above and beyond. I definitely want to do it again.”
