SH planners approve pot store move

Sweet Home Planning Commission members on May 3 approved a conditional use permit for Dustin Pomeroy, owner of Going Green Sweet Home, to establish a retail marijuana store in an existing building at 2252 Main St.

His plan is to move the existing store location, at 925 Main St., to the new location.

In the conditional use application form, the applicant wrote that in moving to the new location “the impact on the neighborhood, we believe, would be minimal as it is already a part of town where many of our customers visit regularly for grocery and retail shopping.”

“The building is back from the street and includes off street parking allowing for little to no traffic other than the center lane being used to turn into our parking lot if traveling from the west part of town. The retail nature of the business results in low impact regarding noise, odor, or other concerns to surrounding businesses.”

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the conditional use permit.

In other action, commissioners:

– Voted unanimously to grant ChanTera Taft of 4511 Long St. a conditional use permit to establish a home occupation (home business) on her property. The home occupation would consist of a notary service for residential home loan document applicants. In her application, Taft noted she expects to see between one to two, but potentially up to six clients per day, with visits ranging from one to two hours per client.

– Approved a variance to allow for a front setback of 15 feet instead of the required 20 feet on a proposal for a new 12-plex submitted by Mark Lund on a lot east of 925 Long St. The reduction of the front setback is due to the Sweet Home Fire District requiring additional square footage for a fire apparatus turnaround. The commission approved the variance 4-2, with the dissenting votes coming from Chairman Jeffrey Parker and Henry Wolthuis.

– Voted 5-1 to continue a hearing to the June 7 Planning Commission meeting on an application to subdivide an approximately 6.50-acre property into 26 lots ranging from approximately 8,226 to approximately 9,950 square feet. The property is located between 23rd Avenue and Foothills Drive. Jamie Melcher was the sole nay vote. The applicant was Savely Kalugin.
