Locater device in stolen car leads to two arrests

Linn County Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday, Oct. 14, recovered a vehicle stolen earlier in the day in Sweet Home, thanks to a locater device contained in the car.

A Sweet Home man and a Lebanon woman were arrested.

According to Sheriff Bruce Riley, deputies were alerted Tuesday morning by Sweet Home Police dispatch about a vehicle that had just been reported stolen to Sweet Home Police. The stolen vehicle was described as a maroon 1992 Honda Accord that contained a personally owned remote locater device.

Deputies were given a possible location of the stolen vehicle near

Allbee Lane and Knox Butte road in Albany. Deputies located the vehicle turning west on Knox Butte road from Allbee Lane. Deputies stopped the vehicle on Knox Butte Road, east of Harber Road. The two occupants, Zachary Mitchell Johnson, 21, of Sweet Home and Stefani Michelle Brock, 24, of Lebanon,were arrested without incident at 10:12 a.m.

Johnson was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree theft and second-degree attempted theft. Brock, who was driving, was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and driving while suspended.

Both Johnson and Brock were transported and lodged at the Linn County Jail.
