Police searching for missing Sweet Home man

Sweet Home police are asking for the public’s help in locating a local man, missing for nearly two weeks.

Leroy Henderson, 49, of 1451 53rd Ave #4, was last seen by his girlfriend at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 2. Henderson had borrowed a friend’s car to run errands in the local area and was expected back within hours.

Henderson’s mother and his girlfriend reported him missing to Sweet Home police on Oct. 6.

Chief Bob Burford said that Henderson is a diabetic and insulin dependent. He is also taking medications for hypertension. He is not believed to have taken any of his medications or any identification with him.

The borrowed vehicle, a maroon Ford Aspire, Oregon Plate VUB944, was discovered Friday, Oct. 11, near McDowell Creek Park. However a search of the area by a team from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office failed to locate any sign of Henderson.

Burford said there are many possible explanations for Henderson’s disappearance and police are sorting through them. He said one possibility is that Henderson drove to the area and went for a walk “and something happened to him.”

“There’s a jillion things things that could have happened,” Burford said. “We just don’t know at this point.”

Anyone having information regarding Henderson’s disappearance is asked to contact the Sweet Home Police Department at 367-5181.
