Glenn Elliott Leonard, 42, of Sweet Home was sentenced Aug. 21 to 33 years and four months in prison for sexual abuse, sodomy and rape.
Leonard was found guilty at trial by a jury on Aug. 9 on three counts of first-degree sodomy, a class A felony; two counts of second-degree sodomy, a class B felony; one count of rape, a class A felony; and one count of first-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony. He pleaded not guilty on all of the charges.
He pleaded no contest to a charge of failure to report as a sex offender, a class C felony.
The jury was hung on three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, class A felonies, and the charges were dismissed. A charge of unlawful sexual penetration, a class A felony, and first-degree sodomy also were dismissed.
A grand jury indicted Leonard on the charges on March 15 based on an investigation by Sweet Home Police Department Officer Tim Trahan and Detective Cyndi Pichardo.
Trahan took the initial report on Feb. 28 regarding allegations that Leonard had sodomized and sexually abused three children between Jan. 1, 2000 and Jan. 31, 2005.
Trahan conducted the initial investigation, Chief Bob Burford said, but because of the length of time necessary for an investigation, he requested that Pichardo complete the investigation.
“In Detective Pichardo’s five years of working sex crimes, this one was the most egregious she encountered,” Burford said.
The victims included two boys and a girl, who are now 14, 13 and 11.
The children were known to but not related to Leonard, Pichardo said.
Pichardo said all of the charges fall under Measure 11, the minimum sentencing law passed by voters in 1994, so Leonard will serve the entire sentence.
On each of the three counts of first-degree sodomy and the rape charge, Leonard was sentenced to 100 consecutive months, a total of 400 months, in prison with 20 years of post-prison supervision.
On each of the two counts of second-degree sodomy and the first-degree sexual abuse charge, he was sentenced to 75 months, a total of 225 months, concurrent in prison and 10 years of post-prison supervision.
He was charged $1,099 in fines and fees and $2,349.72 in restitution.
For failing to report as a sex offender, he was sentenced to 20 days in prison and 24 months probation with a $107 fine.
Leonard had three previous convictions for first-degree sexual abuse in Yamhill County in 1984.
Last year, Leonard, a suspended driver at the time, complained to the city Traffic Safety Committee and City Council about speeders on Mountain View Drive.
