Seandra Reese started on March 15 as the new postmaster at Crawfordsville Post Office.

Reese previously worked at Halsey Post Office for about 3 1/2 years.

She moved to Halsey during her junior year of high school and graduated from Central Linn in 1992.

“I got married and stayed at home with my kids for 10 years,” Reese said. She married Scott Reese 13 years ago. They have three children, Michael, 13; Nicole, 8; and Jason, 6.

She started with the U.S. Postal Service in October 2002 as a rural carrier associate.

“I actually went into Halsey and got hired on as a temporary,” Reese said.

“I wasn’t really looking for a job. I live in Halsey. I had just gone in, and they said they needed a sub.”

She said she joked about taking the job while she was buying stamps, but things got serious. Next thing she knew, she was working for the Post Office.

“I love it,” Reese said. “I just love meeting people and helping them, just meeting their needs as far as showing them the best way to get stuff mailed.”

Before taking the Crawfordsvile position, Reese had experience filling in for the Halsey postmaster last year when she was out for surgery. She also has worked at other post offices around the county.

Reese succeeds Postmaster Lora Novak, who retired in January. Susan Prager served as officer in charge during the interim.

In her spare time, Reese enjoys camping, spending time with her family, gardening and attending her children’s sporting activities.

She continues to live in Halsey, but said she has attended Community Chapel for four years. Last summer, she helped out with the Community Chapel amphitheater landscaping.

She also tries to be active in the parent-teacher club at her children’s schools.

Reese said she doesn’t have everyone’s name down yet, but she is getting to know the Crawfordsville community right now, she said.

“I plan on making it a career,” she said, adding that she plans to stay in Crawfordsville for quite a while.

“I am looking forward to meeting everybody and getting to know this community.”

Already, people are stopping in and talking to her regularly, Reese said. “So far it’s been a good transition.”

The people of the community have been “pretty nice,” she said. “They’ve been very, very gracious.”
