Lois Sevier
Feb. 23, 1918 – June 2, 2017
Lois Grace Sevier, 99, of Sweet Home died June 2, 2017.
She was born Feb. 23, 1918 in Portland to Lester W. and Grace Irene (Robinson) Towle. Her father was the Portland fire chief.
She attended the first three grades in the three-room Fairvale School near Glencullen. She spent the next six grades at Maplewood and Multnomah schools in Portland.
She graduated from the old Lincoln High School 1935. She then earned a post-graduate degree in secretarial science at Commerce High School, which she attended for one year.
She then attended and graduated from Monmouth College in 1938 with a degree in education, which led to a job teaching for three years in a one-room school house.
She married Robert G. Sevier on Feb. 24, 1950 in Vancouver, Wash. They lived on a houseboat on the Willamette River.
The couple lived in Portland, Baker City, Union, La Grande and Boise, before eventually retiring to Green Valley, Ariz.
Mrs. Sevier joined the Grande Ronde Valley No. 49 OES in Union in June 1957. She was installed as Worthy Matron on June 22, 1962 with Wayne Ferguson as her Worthy Patron. She was a 50-year member and received her 50-year membership pin.
When her husband moved his law practice to Union, they decided to adopt a child and Richard Jon Sevier became a part of their family.
The Seviers eventually moved both home and law practice to La Grande, where they became active with the La Grande Swim Team and Mrs. Sevier became a licensed tax consultant.
When Mr. Sevier closed his law practice, they moved to Boise where Mrs. Sevier went to work as a bookkeeper at the Idaho School of the Blind. When she retired, they chose Arizona for their permanent retirement home.
After her husband’s death, Mrs. Sevier moved to Fellowship Square in Tucson until 2015, where she enjoyed swimming and playing cards every day and attending various entertainment programs.
After injuring her shoulder in a fall, she returned to Oregon to live with her son Richard in Springfield for a few months before finding a permanent home at Wiley Creek Retirement Community in Sweet Home.
She was a life member of Grande Ronde Valley No. 49, O.E.S. and a faithful supporter of her Christian religion.
She is survived by her son, Richard Jon Sevier of Springfield and her special friend, Donna Patterson of Union.
Interment will be at the Union Victorian Cemetery in Union.
