James Laycock

May 30, 1941 – Sept. 3, 2016

James Russell Laycock, 75, of Sweet Home, died Saturday.

He was born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Russell Newton and Vivian Carol (Roisen) Laycock.

Mr. Laycock, his baby brother, and their parents moved from Minneapolis to Yucaipa, Calif., when he was about 7 years old.

He attended Redlands High School, in Redlands, Calif. He lived in Southern California and eventually settled in the Sacramento area working in the sheet metal trade.

After retiring from the trades, Mr. Laycock started a family-run business called Tin Man Metal Products. He designed and built specialty pooper scoopers, traveled and sold them at dog shows up and down the west coast.

Mr. Laycock and his family moved to Sweet Home in 1991, bringing the business with them. After 15 yrs of running the business, he retired.

With his newfound time, he was able to focus on his hobbies, which included collecting memorabilia from his youth and building an HO train display. All along, Jim had been an avid sports fan, watching his favorite teams, the LA Dodgers, the LA Rams, the LA Lakers and USC football. But his most favorite thing of all was spending time with his two granddaughters, Ashley and Sarah.

James is survived by his wife of 30 years, Molly Laycock; son, Jeff and wife, Debbie Laycock; daughter, Wendy and husband, Paul Lebeck; daughter, Lauren; and two granddaughters; brother, David and sister-in-law, Lynda Laycock; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and playful and loving chocolate lab, Coco.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell Newton Laycock and Vivian “Mickey” Carol Roisen.

A reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, in Sweet Home Funeral Chapel’s reception room.
