Howard Lee Wolf, 78, died July 8, 2013 at his home in Sweet Home of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
He was born Oct. 26, 1934 in Dallas Township, Mo. to Golden Howard and Lorene Gunderson Wolf, one of two children.
He was a cum laude graduate of the University of Missouri, majoring in forestry.
Mr. Wolf spent his entire professional career working in the industry. After college, he traveled west and started his career with the U.S. Forest Service in the Willamette National Forest, Oakridge, and ended his career with Mitsui in Tacoma, Wash.
Wherever he went – and he went many places, from former Yugoslavia to Argentina to Honduras, he made friends with all he met.
He met Joanne Florea and was immediately struck by the brunette who was not only intelligent and funny, but also caring. They married Sept. 7, 1967.
During college he had an opportunity to attend smokejumper’s school in Missoula, Mont. and was still attending reunions in McCall, Idaho until his health prohibited him from traveling.
Mr. Wolf is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughters Yvonne Wolf and Kimberly Wolf; sons Eric and Chris; his sister, Martie; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Golden and Lorene Wolf; and his beloved son Leif.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
