Loren ‘Weed’ Sapp

July 1, 1935 – March 16, 2013

Loren Richard “Weed” Sapp passed away on 3-16-2013.

This date is significant as it is the same as a favorite family verse, which has brought great comfort to our family. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life!”

Weed was born on July 1, 1935 to his parents Norman (Jake) and Naomi (Hendrix) Sapp. His father nicknamed him “Weed” at an early age and it stuck with him throughout his life. As a boy he grew up in the Lobster Valley/Alsea area but he decided to attend Corvallis High School for athletics. He then went on to Oregon State College where he joined the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and earned the name “Hard Rock.” He met his beloved wife, Donna Wilson, on a blind date, and they married on November 19th, 1955.

Weed and Donna started their family in Alsea with 3 daughters in 3 years. In 1961 they moved the family to Dallas, Oregon to purchase a bowling alley, Starlite Lanes. Their son was born in Dallas where they lived for the next 13 years. Loren then decided to return to the Sapp Bros. Logging operation in Alsea after selling the bowling alley in 1976. With the family down to 1 child at home, they moved to Corvallis and lived there for the past 37 years.

Weed enjoyed golfing at the Corvallis Country Club and made many friends throughout the years. In retirement, he and Donna traveled to Arizona in their 5th wheel, where he also put in some serious golfing time. They continued to be snowbirds until his health made him want to stay in Oregon where he believed that trees make people healthier. He struggled with health issues over the past several years but still led a very loving and full life surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Weed was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara (Leroy) Russell, brother Corky (Mary Alice) Sapp, niece Nancy “Puff” Russell, nephews Rick and Ernest “Hug” Sapp, and many relatives he dearly loved.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna; daughters Rebekah Johnson, Beaverton, Beth (Dave) Lambert, Sweet Home, Bonnie (Rex) Anderson, Albany and son Bob (Kathie) Sapp, Harrisburg; his 13 grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Briana Cobb, Samantha Pierce, Eric, Brady, and Jacque Lambert, Chad and Kori Anderson, Becky, Josh, and Emily Sapp, Matthew and Dominic Robinson; his 2 great grand children, Jackson Lambert and Ava Buckner. He is also survived by his brother, Rocky Sapp and his sister Marilyn (Bob) Collison and scores of family members and friends he dearly loved.

Graveside services will be at the Charles Hendrix Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lobster Valley, at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 23rd. A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 13th at the Corvallis Country Club.
