Harry Carter

Harry Allen Carter, 68, of Lebanon died at his home Jan. 30, 2012.

He was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Freeport, Texas, the son of Allen and Lola (Skipper) Carter. As a child, he lived in San Benito, Texas, where he received his elementary education. He moved with his family to Lebanon in 1959, graduating from Lebanon High School in the Class of 1962.

While in high school, he helped start the “Rod Pushers Car Club.” After high school, he worked for Wah Chang for 10 years. He worked for Jack Thomas Motors as a car salesman for the next 20 years. Mr. Carter then owned and operated “Carter Country Auto Sales” in Lebanon until retiring in 2008.

He was the founder of the “Rollin’ Oldies Car Club” and was a wish grantor for Make-A-Wish for many years. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and planting and caring for his posies. He was well known for his colorful sense of humor, his storytelling and jokes by all who knew him.

He married Carol Horton in Lebanon on June 20, 1992.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Carol of Lebanon; sons Scott and daughter-in-law Brooke Carter of Portland; Alan and daughter-in-law Jami Horton of New Bern, N.C., and John and daughter-in-law Vicki Horton of Lebanon; daughter Shawn Horton Snyder and son-in-law Rick Snyder of Eugene; sisters Wanda and brother-in-law John Frenzel of Lebanon and Sue Hohenshell and partner Sam Bloom of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Carter, and his mother, Lola Carter King; and two brothers, Marvin “Porky” Carter and Pierce Carter.

Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at the Lebanon First Assembly of God church, with burial at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
