Editor:
Let me preface my remarks by saying my parents and grandparents were all loyal Democrats, As was I until the Democratic politicians in Oregon switched their loyalty from the state to the national party kowtowing to what was in the party’s best interests over what was good for the state.
I now consider myself a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. And I vote accordingly and in that order. I have no debt except for my mortgage and I wish all governments would be in the same position. I’m 80 and would like to see the U.S. have a woman president along the lines of a Meir, Thatcher or Merkel.
Now for the reason I write this letter.
Hillary Clinton was considered a shoo-in 2008 until she challenged all comers with the “phone call at 3 a.m.” The Democrats found her wanting and shooed her out and selected a guy with absolutely NO experience.
That has resulted in the US’s now being considered a second- class nation.
Benghazi was her opportunity to show her backbone and build nationwide credit and she failed miserably. Not only not answering the phone but (if you recall!) being sick and out of sight for the next several days and that is why the UN Secretary had to fill in for her on the Sunday shows.
I challenge anyone to list any of her accomplishments. She has virtually none!
Given the opportunities she has had as first lady, senator and secretary of state, that is a damning indictment. Anything she has accomplished has been while attached to Bill’s coattails, and that is why she never divorced him. Her job successes were related to Bill’s success as a politician.
Who believes that she would have been elected to senator from New York if he had not been an ex-president? And what did she accomplish as a senator that would justify being made secretary of state?
Now, it has been reported, that she may have had a couple of TIAs. I hope not, but if so, I also hope for her full recovery. I recently had two while waiting for heart surgery. They are frightening and make one consider one’s mortality and future plans.
After much consideration, I have shelved my plans to run for the presidency. I recommend she do the same.
The real problem here is that I can’t see any other Democrat with the stature to run.
And the Republicans don’t show me much either.
