Oregonians reaffirmed several years ago the kind of society/culture they preferred to live in, by specifically passing an amendment to our state constitution banning gay marriage in this state. If gays want to marry, they can affirm their so-called right to do so somewhere else, where it is permitted.
Why should a small minority think they have to change the majority opinion? The majority is entitled to their opinions. The minority can live their lives and leave other people alone, and so can the majority. That’s what freedom is: Seek your pleasure, but don’t infringe on other people’s pursuit of same.
People have the right to withhold their blessing from those who oppose them. Florists, bakers, photographers should have the right to refuse service if they choose, just like some restaurants refuse service to shirtless/shoeless or drunk and disorderly would-be customers.
We all have the right to choose the company we keep, or avoid. This is America. We want to maintain our personal freedom, to choose our own associates and relationships, professional as well as social.
No one has the right to try to compel opposites to agree with them.
