With the longer days and better weather, comes the desire to do new things, experience new activities and go out into the woods. What better way to do that than by joining some of our ranger station folks in hikes and workshops? The Sweet Home Ranger District is lucky to have such a fine group of people wanting to share their knowledge with the community.
Our schedule is chock full of day hikes to various locations throughout our area. Listed below are just some of the enriching opportunities available to you for not much cost.
Have you ever wondered what it was like to be an early traveler in the Willamette valley? Join archeologist Tony Farque on Friday, June 14, for a moderate four-mile hike down the historic Santiam Wagon Toll Road.
Is there an artist in the house? Volunteer Lisa Chase will take you on a moderate three-mile hike to observe and create art in nature on Saturday, June 15.
Follow the historic footsteps of the Kalapuya Indians to the Cascadia Cave with Tony Farque on Friday, June 20. It’s an easy 2.5 mile hike.
Come enjoy a moderate two- mile hike on Friday, June 28 to Gordon Meadows to see the spectacular display of wildflowers with Alice Smith.
There are many more hikes and workshops planned for the rest of the year. Contact the Ranger Station at (541) 367-5168 or stop by and get more information. To sign up for these hikes and see what others are coming up, go to http://www.recreation.gov.
We look forward to sharing adventures with you.
