My family and I were out for a drive around the lake about two months ago, and we drove past Lewis Cemetery. I have never felt so sad! I am sorry to say, that cemetery looks awful.
The grass had dead spots all over, and there were weeds everywhere. Is that how we show respect to the veterans, loved ones, and founders of Sweet Home? May they all rest in peace. I am really embarrassed about how that cemetery looks.
We, as a community can spend time and money to have upkeep on the downtown median, but we can’t even afford to keep the weeds off the graves of veterans and loved ones? We should be ashamed of ourselves!
I just think about all the people many years ago that put a lot of effort in making Sweet Home what it is today. We should show some appreciation and respect by taking a little better care of the grounds where they are laid to rest.
I realize that our local families are struggling with a tough economy, but the amount of money asked for by increasing property taxes, in many cases, would have been less than $1 a month, depending on the value of your home. Now, since everyone was so quick to shoot down that idea, look what had to happen. They had to raise the rates to offset the cost.
As if a funeral wasn’t expensive enough! Now I am surely not taking aim to criticize the cemetery caretakers. When the funds were there, the grounds looked beautiful.
