Don’t pollute the streams

Editor:

Summer is here. Kids are playing in the creeks and rivers.

That’s why I would like to take this time to remind people that dumping out your old or extra pesticides and/or herbicides into a waterway isn’t cool.

Some think that it gets diluted enough. They don’t see any bad results in their area of the creek or river, but it does goes downstream and could cause harm. In recent years, I have seen all the “crawdads” dead in Ames Creek. Fish and Wildlife said it was probably because of pesticides.

Another thing I would like to ask is that people be careful dumping trailer and camper holding tanks into the waterways. I personally have seen people doing just that – A big black hose going from their trailer right into the creek.

Creeks, rivers, and kids (of all ages) go together in the summer. Now with Jamboree right around the corner, I would like to ask everyone who lives on or visits a waterway to please be respectful to everyone else that lives on or plays in the waterway by not dumping poisons into the water.

If you have people staying on your property, please ask them to respect it also. There are proper dumping sites around. Let’s make it a safe and fun summer for all, especially for the kids.
