Watershed Council thanks volunteers

Editor:

The Calapooia Watershed Council would like to thank all of the landowners, volunteers, and council members who have worked with the Council to implement restoration projects in the Brush Creek sub-basin over the past year.

Brush Creek has been identified as having the majority of the highest quality tributary habitat in the middle watershed by the Council’s 2004 Assessment and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife habitat surveys.

Since 2007, the Council recruited five landowners to complete high priority projects, and wants to thank those landowners for being willing to do their part to improve the health of the watershed. In addition to assisting with project implementation, a few landowners gave presentations about their projects during a tour for fellow watershed residents in October.

Several volunteers, including students from the Crawfordsville Elementary School and the Santiam Wilderness Academy in Lebanon, helped the Council plant over 1,000 native plants along streams in November and December.

Additionally, Native Grounds Nursery staff played a vital role in planning and implementing each project. All of our volunteers worked very hard and we want to thank them for their efforts.
