New cigarette law is hypocritical

Editor:

Why in the world would our state government subsidize a product that is so toxic that you can’t even use it in our schools, workplace, parks, public meetings, restaurants, bars, and now even in a car?

(Headline: “Legislature makes it a crime to smoke in car with kids inside.”)

Many people, who have access to the Oregon Trail card, can and do withdraw cash to buy this toxic product. Yes, I’m talking about the evil tobacco products.

Anyone who can afford to buy and use tobacco products should not be allowed access to the welfare subsidy program, food stamps, or the Oregon Health Care programs.

In fact, the state of Oregon should not be promoting the sale of this toxic product. By not restricting the sale of these products, it is endorsing and promoting them. The more tobacco products that is sold the more money the state makes. The state shouldn’t be allowed to make a single penny on this toxic product.

Until Oregon decides to ban the sale and the use of all tobacco products in the state of Oregon, they should get off the back of those who use this legal product. Enough is enough.

What next, are we going to put a camera in the home of smokers to make sure they don’t smoke in front of the children?

No, I am not a smoker. But I am sick of the nanny state of Oregon dictating what people should do. I am tired of them passing bills, claiming it is “for the sake of the children.”

Abortion kills far more children than second-hand smoke. Oregon allows abortions up to, and including, the last day of pregnancy, yet the legislature does nothing to restrict abortions or the use of state funds to pay for them. What a bunch of hypocrites.
