O’Reilly needs
to get a clue
Editor:
In late response to “Christmas: Time to remember God?” (Dec. 24), I find it somewhat difficult to accept the fact that Mr. Bill O’Rielly lost control of his ability to understand, let alone accept the fact of equal representation of two totally conflicting views and that Christianity holds no upper hand over non-Christian view or belief.
Assured by the First Amendment to the Constitution, what the atheists and agnostics did, along with the Freedom from Religion Foundation Inc., was a constitutional right, rightly expressed, and should not have drawn any questions as to the legality or conformity to the First Amendment as no lawlessness was involved.
I wonder, outside of yourself, how many others who read “Christmas: Time to remember God?” were aware of the lack of understanding concerning the issues in question. That (again) the First Amendment put an end to England’s rule of law, that the people in America are above the rule of monarchy, as some do presently desire, whether disputed or not.
Perhaps by now Mr. O’Reilly has learned that one-sided, emotional outbursts do not trump the First Amendment and Mr. O’Reilly should be man enough to apologize to the atheists, agnostics and the Freedom from Religion Foundation Inc. for his uninformed remarks. Also, if Mr. O’Reilly does not, then he can no longer appear as some knight in shining armor, atop a white charger, ready to do battle with whomsoever he doesn’t approve of (view-wise) and whereby must revert to a joker on a sway-backed mule with a bucket for a helmet, a trash can lid for a shield and a broomstick for a sword.
Concerning God, I prefer to think that all (at one time or another) have God on their mind, sending upward to Heaven silent prayer thanking God for all the protection He has shown to us since that awful day of 9/11, and that all stand ready to once again look toward Heaven and pray aloud without ceasing, should another 9/11 occur.
If the people of America are not a unified people in any kind of dire need, then America as we know her will be swept away by the winds of change!
