Deceased veteran deserves a flag

Editor:

I want to thank those who took part in the ceremony on Memorial Day at Gilliland Cemetery.

The avenue of flags was missed. Thank you to the gentlemen who put them up in the past. The small flags on veterans’ resting places were nice – those that had them.

Last year, I called the number in The New Era that asks for any missed graves to be reported. I explained that my husband’s headstone was not the standard VA stone but has “U.S. Army – Korea.” Again this year, a flag was not placed on his resting place.

His name is Charley Joe Tenbusch, and he served in the Korean conflict. Mr. Tom Grant, World War II, also did not have a flag. Perhaps other veterans were missing flags on their headstones. These were the only ones I personally know about.

I would like to make a suggestion: Get a printout from the office of the cemetery as to where these veterans’ physical remains rest.

Isn’t one veteran as important as another? They all answered the call for help from their country, and they all deserve the respect of being recognized with a flag.

The Royal Neighbors could use a printout also. Our son had an RNA flag by his headstone, but my niece did not.

Thank you.

Jessie Tenbusch
