Huskies split opening games of boys basketball season

In a pair of home games to open the season, Sweet Home beat Sisters 50-31 on Friday before losing to Woodburn 54-49 on Saturday.

Of the Sisters matchup, Head Coach Drew Emmert said “I thought that was a good first game for us. We definitely found things we need to work on, but it’s always nice to start with a win.”

“Sisters was a little bit down last year, but they’re always a good program,” he said.

“Defensively, I thought we did a good job,” Emmert said of the Huskies. “I thought our rotations early on weren’t great but as the game went on it got better, which was good to see.”

Hunter Coulter scored 25 points in the season opener, and Aiden Tyler put in 12.

The next day, Sweet Home fell to Woodburn in a back and forth game.

“Woodburn was one of the teams that everyone said would be one of the best in the state,” said Emmert.

“I thought we competed hard. We just had too many turnovers, which hurt us. We shot ourselves in the foot a lot against them with turnovers that we didn’t need to have,” he said.

Coulter got into foul trouble, which hurt the Huskies chances.

“I think he played around 10 minutes, and he rarely ever comes out of the game,” Emmert said. “So that was hard for us to overcome.”

Aiden Tyler had a huge day for the Huskies scoring 28 points while going 12 for 22 from the field and pulling in 18 rebounds. Coulter was the next leading scorer with nine points.
