SH spikers take care of business against JC, Elmira; Sisters next

Sweet Home’s volleyball team raised its league record to 6-1 last week with three-set wins over Junction City and Elmira.

Tuesday night, Oct. 10, will be a key match for the Huskies as they face No. 1-ranked Sisters at home.

They travel to Sutherlin Thursday and will wind up the league season Oct. 16 at home against Cottage Grove.

At Elmira on Oct. 3, Sweet Home was led by Ally Tow, who had 10 kills as the Huskies dispatched the Falcons 25-14, 25-6, 25-13.

Kaylee Lopez added eight kills and five blocks and Shelby Nichol had seven kills.

“We served and received well,” Coach Mary Hutchins said.

Sweet Home also dominated Junction City at home Thursday, Oct. 5, 25-10, 25-11, 25-18. Lopez had 12 kills and Tow added 10.

“We just kind of had a good game,” Hutchins said. “We came out and did what we needed to do. We talked about the need to go out and play every night and to keep the pace up when the other team tries to slow things down – or someone’s going to surprise you.”

Sisters led the league going into this week’s action, with a 7-0 record, 17-3 overall, with those losses all to 5A Bend-area teams.

Going into this match, Sweet Home is the only 4A team to win more than one game off the Outlaws, after a 3-2 loss in Sisters. The Huskies lead third-place Cottage Grove (4-3) by two games, with Sutherlin trailing in fourth at 3-4.

On another front for Sweet Home, the Huskies’ JV2 team won its tournament Saturday in Cottage Grove, beating Sheldon in the final.

“That was pretty exciting,” Hutchins said. “(The Sheldon coach) was excited to get some competition from us.”
