Gracie Olson and Daniel Virtue were named the Booster Club Girl and Boy of the Year during the annual Sweet Home High School Husky Booster Club Athletic Awards banquet held Sunday, June 4, at the Sweet Home Elks Lodge.
Olson played volleyball for four years, lettering two years. She earned Sky-Em All-League honorable mention, and she was captain of the varsity team.
She wrestled two years, lettering twice and placing third in state. She won the team’s Work Horse Award and was a member of the Oregon National Team.
In track, Olson lettered all three years she participated, placing at the district meet in the pole vault and triple jump. She won the 2017 Coach’s Award.
Olson plans to attend Oregon State University.
Virtue lettered two out of four years in football. He was team Most Valuable Player and first team all-league in 2015 and 2016.
He lettered four times in basketball, winning Newcomer of the Year in 2015, Most Valuable Player in 2015 and 2016 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. He was second team all-league in 2017.
In baseball, Virtue lettered three of four years in the program. He was named to the first team all-league in 2015 and 2016. He was pitcher of the year in 2016. He was first team all-league outfielder and all state in 2017. He was the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2017.
Virtue plans to attend Oregon State University.

Hall of Fame: Kobe Olson, Lucie Davis, Dan Virtue and Nathan Hager. The Hall of Fame requires a 2.5 GPA or better. Outstanding citizenship, with no violations senior year, athletic achievement, district honors in any school year, approval of 50 percent or more of the coaching staff and approval of the administration.
Moe Award: Gracie Olson and Josh Rice. This award recognizes athletes who are hard workers, although not necessarily the highest performers. They are athletes a coach would proud to call his or her own. They are the first to arrive, the last to leave and display outstanding citizenship.
U.S. Army Scholar Athlete: Sean Wolthuis and McKenzie Yoder. The award recognizes academic excellence – at least a B average – leadership and outstanding citizenship. The recipient must have been a member of a varsity team and approved by an administrator.
U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete: Madi Barringer and Jake Porter. The award recognizes athletic excellence, leadership and positive role models.
Larry Johnson-Bruce West Sportsmanship Award: Ilima Kaauwai-Walker, Dillon Stutzman and Nick Rietz.
Spirit of a Champion: Brandon Vasfaret, Sarita Zanona, Makayla Towry and Erin Bauer. The award recognizes team players who have outstanding character and are team leaders with outstanding citizenship. They must earn a varsity letter in a sport or activity.
OSAA Scholar Athlete Award: Kenzi Adams, Kristen Adams, Madi Barringer, Erin Bauer, Jinny Chawengchote, Soriah Curtis, Nathan Hager, Elea Hewitt, Dana Hiett, Kat Kinker, Chloe Newport, Gracie Olson, Wesley Parker, Makayla Towry, Daniel Virtue, Sean Wolthuis and McKenzie Yoder.
32nd Annual Greg Hagle Memorial Scholarship: Kobe Olson, Gracie Olson, Nathan Hager and Jessica Coats.
Norma Davis Memorial Scholarship: Kobe Olson.
John Seward Memorial Scholarship: Elea Hewitt.
Pat Baxter Memorial Scholarship: Kobe Olson.
Husky Award: Dana Hiett, cross country, dance and track; Keanu Aiona, football, basketball and baseball; Dillon Stutzman, football, wrestling and track; and Daniel Virtue, football, basketball and baseball. Husky Awards recognize students who completed a sport in each of the three seasons all four years of high school.
