Boys run out of gas against bigger Lebanon

Lebanon overcame an early 1-0 Sweet Home lead in boys soccer to overcome the Huskies 4-1 Wednesday in Lebanon.

Sweet Home took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half on a free kick by Steven Ulmer that eventually went to Kyle Rose, who scored. The Huskies led 1-0 at halftime, but Lebanon roared back in the second half, scoring four goals.

Sweet Home Coach Ryan Regrutto said his team was short-handed, particularly after one of his players got a yellow card and another was injured, leaving the Huskies with nine men on the field. That was due to some leftover eligibility issues from last year that kept a couple players he was counting on off the bus.

“I was expecting 13 and we played with 11,” he said.

Initially, the Huskies played “very well,” Regrutto said. “We are a good defensive team, but it’s a tough thing to do to play tough ‘D’ for 80 minutes. We are struggling for fitness.”

Also, he was “experimenting” with his lineup during the second half. “(The score) could have been tighter,” he said.

Sweet Home, 1-0, travels to Central Tuesday, Sept. 10, and then to Taft Thursday, Sept. 12.
