The Sweet Home High School cheerleaders finished first at the Oregon Elite Classic in Salem on Saturday.
They competed against two other teams.
“We have had injury after injury,” said Coach Amber Rosa. This was the first time the team has had all its girls, although the team is fighting illness this week.
With cheerleaders out, the team misses points for difficulty for not putting up as many stunts, she said.
The team placed second out of four at the Emerald Classic in Springfield on Jan. 26. It was third out of five at the Clackamas Cavaliers Classic Invitational on Jan. 19, a week when the team had 10 cheerleaders missing.
The team finished second out of four, within a point of first place, at the Springfield Invitational on Jan. 12.
The cheerleaders move on to state at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.
“This week, we’ll have all our kids,” Rosa said, and they’ll be facing six other teams.
“We look good,” Rosa said. “The routine is awesome. The stunts are awesome if we can put them all up.”
South Umpqua is the biggest challenge the Huskies will face, Rosa said. South Umpqua defeated the Huskies last month, but the Huskies weren’t all there. Rosa is hoping to give South Umpqua a surprise.
