The Sweet Home High School girls varsity basketball team lost 64-40 on the road Friday evening and 83-39 at home on Tuesday evening last week.
They played much better Friday than Tuesday last week, said Coach Kerstin Brosterhous. Against Elmira, “we didn’t do anything we practiced in the game. It was back to the drawing board Wednesday and Thursday.”
The Huskies trailed 25-4 after one quarter and 49-17 after two. The deficit grew to 68-31 by the end of the third quarter.
Then the Huskies turned things around.
“It was probably one of our best games so far,” Brosterhous said of Friday’s contest against La Pine. “They were very aggressive on the defensive end. I saw the most offensive movement out of them. They were aggressive, trying to take it to the hole.”
Each player did her job and helped her teammates at the right times when they needed it, Brosterhous said. “I finally saw some scrappiness. The effort was 10 times better than I’ve seen all season.”
Everyone contributed, Brosterhous said. Scoring was distributed among the Huskies.
“We talked about doing your part and learning when to help your teammates,” she said. “I actually saw it working on the court. They were more aware.
Precise statistics and score by quarter was unavailable for the La Pine game, but the Huskies started with a severe deficit of about 22-8 at the end of the first quarter but started playing closer with a halftime score of 39-22.
