The Sweet Home High School girls basketball team had chances to keep up with the Sisters Outlaws at home on Jan. 15, but they weren’t enough as Sisters rolled to a 61-36 victory.
Out of the gate, the two teams played a close match to 6-6. In the last half of the first quarter, Sisters started putting more numbers on the board, leading 16-6 by the end.
The Outlaws expanded their lead to 27-13 at halftime and 44-18 by the end of the third. The Huskies got hot in the fourth, closing the lead before Sisters put up its final numbers. The Huskies outscored Sisters 18-17 in the final quarter.
“I thought we played really well,” said Coach Kerstin Brosterhous. It was one of those games where it was easy to forget you’re behind then look up and see a 20-point deficit.
“I thought it was a really good game, and we took steps forward,” Brosterhous said. In the second half, “we finally found some fight in us.”
The girls put up a defense and brought determination onto the court, playing really hard, she said, and then they started sinking their shots.
“I was very happy with our game,” Brosterhous said.
Sisters is now 2-1 in league and 12-3 overall.
The Huskies lost 77-24 at Cottage Grove on Friday. Cottage Grove is 10-6 overall and 2-1 in league.
The Huskies are 0-2 in league and 1-12 overall.
