Graville named Most Outstanding Player after leading young Huskies in volleyball

Megan Graville has seen the highs and the lows of high school volleyball, but she’s been a leader for Sweet Home, which named her Most Outstanding Player for the 2012 season.

“She has been on very successful teams,” Coach Alicia Meier said, referring in particular to the 2011 Huskies, who finished sixth in state.

This year, though, Graville was one of only two experienced players from that 2011 squad – on a team that finished 4-6 in league and 4-12 overall.

“One unique thing about this year is we pretty much replaced the whole varsity team,” Meier said. “We had two returnees from last year.”

Graville earned her fourth letter, the only player on the team to play varsity as a freshman. The only other multi-letter winner was junior Amanda Hubbard, who earned her third letter and, along with Graville served as a team captain.

First-year letters went to seniors Shantel Pitts and Sam Ashlock, juniors Alena Davis and Emily Marchbanks, and sophomores Sierra Thayer, Jordan Miller and McKenzie Cochran.

Marchbanks was named recipient of the Hustle Award; Miller was named Most Improved; and Pitts was Most Inspirational.
