Sweet Home 10, La Pine 2
The Huskies opened league
play in baseball with a 10-2 win at
La Pine Monday afternoon.
“It was nice to get back into
the swing of things,” said Coach
Matt Matuszak. “We’re feeling
good. We had kind of a rough nonleague
schedule, so it was kind of
nice to get started on the winning
trail. Any time you get a win on
the road in conference, it’s always
nice.”
The Huskies had opportunities
to score more runs, but they made
a couple of base-running errors
that took them out of getting a big
inning, Matuszak said.
The Huskies scored three out
of the gate and then another in the
top of the fourth. La Pine scored
its only two runs in the fourth, and
the Huskies closed out the game
with two runs in each of the last
three innings.
Rice received credit for the
win. He struck out five, walking
none but hitting two batters and
giving up two hits.
Rice pitched three innings,
but Matuszak pulled him out to
rest him and get other pitchers
time on the mound.
If he hadn’t pulled Rice, he
doesn’t think La Pine would have
scored at all, Matuszak said. Hanks
pitched in relief but struggled,
giving up two earned runs, striking
out three and walking three in twothirds
of an inning. The Huskies
went to Drayson Scott for the next
two innings, and Scott struck out
four and walked one. Zach Gill
pitched the final inning, striking
out one and walking three.
Losing pitcher was D.
Schneider. T. Allen pitched in
relief.
At the plate, Jeremy White
went 1-2 with two RBIs. Hunter
Bidwell went 2-5 with two
runs and an RBI. Rice went 2-4
with three runs, two RBIs and a
double.
Scott went 2-4, and Austin
Rice went 2-3 with two runs. Nate
Melcher scored a run, and Kyle
Winslow went 1-5 with two RBIs.
Hanks went 2-4 with a run, and
Colton Holly scored a run.
The Huskies are 2-7 overall
and 1-0 in league.
