Nick Hall, a two-time district champion in cross-country for Sweet Home and one of the Huskies’ most versatile track athletes, signed a letter of intent Wednesday, Feb. 22, to compete at Lane Community College.
Flanked by his father and stepmother, Michael and Mira Hall, coaches Billy Snow and Jim Kistner, and former teammate and now assistant coach Jake Comstock, Hall signed to compete with the Titans to the applause of classmates and teachers.
Hall, a senior, said he decided on LCC because it is relatively close to home and he liked the feel of the program there.
“The track team and coaching staff were like we are here,” he said. “They treat each other like family. I was looking for that in a track program.”
He said he doesn’t plan to run cross-country at Lane, but hopes to get his times down enough to eventually be able to run at the University of Oregon. He said he will probably focus on the 800 in college.
Kistner, who has coached Hall to four district championships in the 400 and the 300 hurdles as a sophomore and junior, called Hall a “great, great competitor.”
“He puts everything into it,” he said. “He works hard and he takes things very seriously.
“He could further develop and be a real force.”
Hall said he was contacted by LCC coaches soon after this year’s Sky-Em District cross-country championships, which were held at the school. He also heard from several other schools, he said. He said his goal is to become an athletic training or possibly a nurse.
Kistner said LCC is “a great fit for Hall.”
“His range is real extensive, He can run anything from the 800 to the 3,000, plus he’s a hurdler. Billyand I always debated where to put him.”
