Husky girls lose on road at Estacada, on own court to Cascade

Sweet Home’s girls lost 61-41 in basketball at Estacada Thursday evening.

“We played well, but we just made too many mistakes,” said Coach Steve Brown.

The Huskies played well at points, breaking the press but then getting nervous and throwing the ball away.

The Huskies trailed 15-5 after a quarter and 33-16 at halftime. Estacada led 51-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Ally Tow sparked a run in the fourth to take the Huskies over the 40-point mark for the first time this season.

She scored 14 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter. The Huskies scored 18, while Estacada scored just 10.

Kristen Kiser led Estacada with 21 points.

“The ones that have never played before, they’re still getting used to playing,” Brown said. Overall, he is proud of the fact that his players never give up, he said. The majority are inexperienced. Just three have significant varsity experience.

The Huskies are 2-5 going into a game at North Bend on Tuesday.

The Huskies lost to Cascade 57-17 Friday at home.

Cascade made big runs in the first and third quarters, leading 22-3 at the end of the first as the Huskies figured out how to deal with the Cougars’ aggressive defense, and 24-9 lead bat halftime. In the third quarter, Cascade ran its lead up to 47-14.

“They’re an established program,” Brown said. He expected Cascade would be a tough opponent.

Again, inexperience led to turnovers for the Huskies, he said. “Our goal is to continue to improve, to be ready for league.”

And again he remains proud of the girls for keeping at it, he said. “A lot of girls could’ve just packed it up and said forget about it, but they played hard to the end.”

Tow led scoring with 10 points. Halle Wright led Cascade with 12.
