Softball team continues to roll over league opponents

The Huskies continued thundering through their softball league last week, extending their win streak to six with the defeat of Cottage Grove 6-1 at home on May 7 and the shutout of La Pine 12-0 on the road on May 5.

Sweet Home finished the week 10-1, 15-2 overall, and seventh in the Oregon Student Activities Association rankings. The Huskies don’t have a lock on the league championship yet.

Elmira, ranked 13th, was second with a 9-2 record.

“We’re looking really good as far as playoffs go,” said Coach Shane Cochran. “We’ve just got to finish the season.”

The Huskies were scheduled to face Cottage Grove Monday evening, May 12, then host Junction City, third in league with an 8-5 record, on Tuesday and visit Junction City on Friday.

“Junction City, we’ll have to be on top of things,” Cochran said. “They’ve got a pretty good pitcher. They’re going to be gunning to beat us, no doubt.”

Junction City is third in league with an 8-5 record.

“I’m feeling really good we’ll take care of business this week and end up first in league,” Cochran said. “I’m confident about playoffs.”

He’s looking for a semi-finals appearance at least, he said. “Every team you play is going to be good. We’ve just got to score one more run than they do.”

SH 6, Cottage Grove 1
