Sweet Home’s volleyball team made the trip to Sisters Tuesday, Oct. 15, but the Huskies had little to show for it as the Outlaws went to town for a quick 3-0 win.
Sisters won the first game 25-8, in which Sweet Home’s points came mostly from their opponents’ errors, Coach Alicia Meier said.
“It was difficult,” she said.
Her team showed more fight in Game 2, losing 25-16 before dropping the third game 25-14.
“Serving is normally our strength, but we missed three serves and only had three aces,” Meier said. “Our best hitter had three kills.”
Jordan Miller and Madisen Barringer finished with three kills each.
Meier said the Huskies’ goal is simply to “play hard the entire match and give it their all – play as a team and do what the team needs.”
After a break on Thursday, the Huskies traveled to Seaside for a tournament on Saturday, where they found themselves in a pool with Cascade, the No. 1-ranked team in the state, Madras, another top team, and Tillamook, which is ranked 26th, right above Sweet Home.
They split with Tillamook, then lost 25-13, 25-14 to Cascade.
“We played decent,” Meier said. “They were a really strong team.”
Madras had two good hitters and the Huskies couldn’t find the answer to them, losing 25-8, 25-7.
“It was a complete breakdown,” Meier said.
In the consolation bracket, the Huskies faced Stayton and fell 25-21, 25-20 after a good effort, she said.
This week is crucial if the team has any hopes of making the playoffs.
They have to win at Junction City on Tuesday evening and then will host Cottage Grove Thursday.
“If our strong team shows up, we could tie Cottage Grove for third if the girls want it,” she said. “We took one game off them last time (at Cottage Grove) and the fourth game was really close. I thought we could win.”
The game will also be Sweet Home’s Pink Out game. It starts at 6:45 Thursday.
