Sweet Home 12, La Pine 1
The Huskies varsity softball
team dominated La Pine Monday
afternoon, opening league play at
home winning 12-1 in five innings
under the 10-run rule.
The Huskies got their leadoff
hitter on base in the first inning and
then put more people in motion
Monday, scoring a second and
third with less than two outs, with
a single here and a sac fly there,
said Coach Casey Humphrey.
“We did small ball stuff, the
game we want to play,” Humphrey
said. After scoring four runs in
the Huskies first three games, the
Huskies were excited to get out,
run through the order and get
around the bases.
La Pine scored its only run in
the top of the first, starting with a
single and stolen base. The runner
was sacced to third, and the next
batter hit a weak double to score
the runner.
“Megan Graville did a
wonderful job,” Humphrey said.
She struck out eight of 15 batters,
giving up two hits and no walks.
Parrish, the losing pitcher,
struck out one batter and walked
four.
Hitting, Katie Virtue went 1-3
with two runs and two stolen bases.
Hailey Hummer went 2-4 with
three runs and three stolen bases.
Emili Riggs went 1-3 with three
runs and a stolen base. Graville
went 1-3 and walked once. Sarah
Wyatt ran for her and scored three
runs. Emily Marchbanks went 1-4,
and Cayitlin Gillespie went 1-3.
The team swiped a total of
eight bags, Humphrey said.
The Huskies are 2-2 overall
and 1-0 in league play. They play
Elmira next at home at 4:30 p.m.
on Wednesday.

Sweet Home 2, Stayton 1
The Huskies found a way
to beat Stayton 2-1 despite four
errors and no hits Saturday in the
first game of a tournament held at
McLouglin in Milton-Freewater.
In the sixth inning, down
by one, Hummer faced a 3-2
count and then pulled the walk,
Humphrey said. She stole second,
and Stayton walked Riggs.
Graville struck out, and Emily
Marchbanks laid down a sac
bunt.
Stayton’s third baseman
threw the ball to right field, and
Hummer scored from second. The
rightfielder tried to throw a cutoff,
but the cutoff wasn’t there, and
Riggs scored the winning run.
Marchbanks threw for the
Huskies, giving up four hits,
striking out five and walking two.
Hill pitched 5 1/3 innings for
Stayton. Cruz pitched in relief.

The Huskies tripped up in
one inning to make a close loss
into a big 6-1 loss at McLoughlin
on Saturday.
“We played all right,”
Humphrey said. “We had one bad
inning and gave up some runs on
mental errors.”
Yamhill-Carlton led 2-1 after
the first inning and added another
in the third. In the fourth, Yamhill-
Carlton scored three more runs.
Graville pitched for the
Huskies, giving up six runs, seven
