New information signs installed on I-5

Work has been completed on four traffic cameras and message signs on I-5 between Albany and Salem, the Oregon Department of Transportation reported Oct. 3.

In response to unreliable travel times, congestion and delays caused by crashes between Albany and Salem, ODOT implemented recommendations and guidance from the I-5 Optimization Project report to remove older signs and replace them with new variable message board signs and traffic congestion cameras. Cost of the project was $4,650,720.

The closest of the message signs is located at Hoefer Drive NE at milepost 240 near Jefferson.

ODOT will add the new traffic camera feeds on TripCheck later this year. The new message boards will help drivers stay in the know, providing real-time updates about possible crashes, upcoming construction or other traffic impacts.

Drivers may still see crews in the area wrapping up remaining construction and clearing the work zone; caution is advised.
