Norma Stepp, 86, of Baker City (formerly of Brownsville, passed away on Aug. 2, 2026.
She was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Lebanon to Charlie and Beulah (Scott) Warden.
Growing up in the Brownsville area, she attended elementary school at the historic Courtney Creek School and later attended high school in Brownsville.
She married Guy “Sonny” Stepp in Brownsville on Sept. 10, 1955. They resided on their Courtney Creek property throughout their 54-year marriage, while raising two daughters.
Norma was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, music, and growing her rhododendrons.
On Aug. 6, 1979, Sonny became a paraplegic due to a timber-falling accident. At that time, she became his full-time caregiver until his death in 2010.
She continued to live at home until she contracted COVID in the fall of 2022. Following that illness, she moved into assisted living and remained in that care until her death.
Surviving family are her two daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Banta of Baker City and Cathy Stepp of Brownsville; sister Carolyn (Hubert) Christensen; brother Gary Warden; grandchildren Amy, Darcie, and Colton; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three nephews; and a niece.
Family members preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sister Thelma, and nephews Wade and Jim.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at the Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
