Double D Awarded the Double D Choice Award.
“It’s not that we disagree with the judges,” said Debbie Jewell, owner of Double D Karaoke.
“It just says that a certain contestant’s performance touched us in some way and we feel deserves our recognition. This year the award went to Antoinette Clapp. She received a trophy from Double D Karaoke and two one-day passes from the Oregon Jamboree. Needless to say, Antoinette had a pretty great night.”
As the 10th anniversary of the contest, with some $6,400 in prizes, Double D brought a prize wheel and audience members spun it for additional prizes.
Hannah Wible sang the National Anthem to kick off the evening.
“We have donations from all over the area, from our own community to as far away as Canyonville in one direction and Chinook Winds in the other direction,” Jewell said.
“Lebanon, Albany, Salem and Corvallis are just a few of the towns that were proud to help us. And it didn’t matter who you asked, a big corporation, a small business or even a friend or family member, everyone was excited to help us, to be able to help the veterans.
“And that’s what this whole thing is all about.”
The event is held as a membership drive for the Vet’s Club organizations.
“It takes hours and hours, driving miles and miles, a lot of walking and knocking on doors and lots of our personal funding, but we love it,” Jewell said.
