Amy Letha Nipp, 92, of Dallas died at her home March 24, 2011.
She was born Feb. 22, 1919 in Onaka, S.D., the youngest child of Kelly and Hattie Carpenter Bishop. She married Albert Louis Nipp on July 22, 1937 in Yankton, S. D.
They owned and operated a farm in Onaka, S.D. from 1937 to 1953.
They moved to Sweet Home where Mrs. Nipp became the first woman to work at Lester’s Shingle mill. Later, they moved to California for a time and returned to Sweet Home and then to Dallas in 1978.
Mrs. Nipp always had busy hands, quilting for family, friends, Sable House, drug babies and knitting stocking caps for veterans and making lap robes. Her motto was “Always give knowing you are going to get nothing in return.” She was a member of American War Mothers, Rickreall Grange and the Dallas Extension.
She is survived by her sons Doug of Dallas, Ron of Sweet Home and Arnie of Colorado Springs, Colorado along with 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, on April 25, 1990, son Lenard, on February 22, 1977, and several brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 29th in the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm in the Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
