Spaghetti dinner
for Sunshine Friday
Sunshine Industries will hold its second annual Spaghetti Dinner Fund-raiser, Entertainment, and Silent Auction from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at at the Elks Lodge, 440 Osage St.
Donations will be accepted at the door.
All proceeds go towards Sunshine Industries’ new building, which is under construction on Clark Mill Avenue.
Auction to fund camp scholarships
Fir Lawn Lutheran Church will hold an auction and baked potato supper at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, to send local youngsters to camp.
After last year’s success, the church hopes to send 16 campers this year. The cost of 16 campers will be approximately $6,000.

Elks to hold flag ceremony June 16
The Sweet Home Elks Lodge #1972 will present a Flag Day Ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at the club.
This ceremony is held yearly in honor of our American flag and traces the American flag through its origin to the current flag used today. This event is open to the public.
CASA car show at Ray’s in N. Albany
The Sixth Annual North Albany Car Show benefiting CASA of Linn County will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Father’s Day, June 16, at Ray’s Food Place parking lot, 621 NW Hickory St., Albany.
CASA advocates for abused children living in foster care.
Enjoy helicopter rides, an engine blow raffle, loud pipe contest, music, children’s activities and barbecue.

Free meals for kids during summer
The Sweet Home School District’s Summer Food Service Program provides free, nutritious meals beginning June 17 and running through Aug. 23.
No meals will be served on July 4 and 5 because of the Independence Day holiday, as well as Aug. 2, due to the Oregon Jamboree.
Lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to12:15 p.m. at the sites listed below, from June 17 through Aug. 23. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

SH talent show try-outs June 19
Chips ‘n’ Splinters try-outs will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.
The theme for this year’s show is “A Night at the Oscars.” All acts will be considered and will be required to attend a mandatory rehearsal on July 10.
Preference will be given to “Oscar”-themed acts, but all will be considered. The show will be held in conjunction with the Sportsman’s Holiday Queen Coronation program on July 12.

LBCC summer
fitness classes
Linn-Benton Community College is offering fitness classes this summer.
They will be offering a variety of classes in Lebanon, Scio, Sweet Home, and Brownsville such as: Aquatic Fitness, Better Bones and Balance, Body Toning & Aerobics, Boot Camp, Cardio Strength and Balance, Cardio Strength and Tone, Easy Cardio, Easy Does It Exercise, Power Yoga, Rock’n to the Core, T’ai Chi, Yoga, Yoga Warriors, Zumba, and Zumba Toning.
Open registration is under way. Classes start the week of June 24.

Options available for special needs
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires schools to make available special education to children from kindergarten through age 21 who are eligible for special services.
Disabilities include: learning disabilities, physical orthopedic disabilities, chronic illness, mental retardation, hearing or vision impairments, speech or language problems, emotional problems, traumatic brain injury and autism.
The Early Intervention Act law also provides special services for children age birth to three years. Children age three to five are also eligible for services.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, June 14, is chicken patty parmesan or barbecued smokehouse chop, Colcannon potatoes, succotash, cornmeal bread, and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.
The menu for Monday, June 17, is Waikiki chicken or Swedish meatballs, creamed potatoes, mixed vegetables, wheat bran bread and fresh orange.
The menu for Tuesday, June 18, is lima beans and turkey ham or spaghetti with meat sauce, country trio vegetables, spinach Romaine lettuce, cornmeal roll and white cake with maple frosting.
