Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Jan. 28, is beef stew or macaroni-and-cheese Florentine, brussels sprouts, carrot raisin salad, a multigrain roll and a golden fruit cup..
The menu for Monday, Jan. 31, is Bavarian stew or a Mexican pasta bake, chuck-wagon corn, spinach romaine salad, a white dinner roll and lemon pudding.
The menu on Tuesday, Feb. 1, is a beef rigatoni or chicken rice bake, green beans, cucumber and red onion salad, a multigrain roll and seasonal fruit.

Sheriff’s Office holds hiring event
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is holding a hiring event from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Central Electric Training Center, 33309 Hwy. 99E, Tangent.
Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m.
Available openings include positions in patrol, corrections, dispatch and nursing. Testing for entry-level patrol and corrections applicants will include a physical ORPAT test, a written test snd an oral interview. Testing for the latter positions will consist of an oral interview only.
Admission is free, and lunch will be provided.

Nurses, ministers invited to meet
The Faith Community Health Network of the Mid-Willamette Valley meets from 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month – Jan. 26.
FCHN is a network of nurses and health ministers from diverse faiths across the Mid-Willamette Valley serving – or who want to serve – in their faith community and who are passionate to bring improved healthcare access and equity to the most vulnerable populations. Faith Community Nursing is a recognized nursing specialty that has grown in popularity with nurses who want to improve their spiritual care skills at any point in their career, or seasoned nurses retiring from their paid positions who want to keep their license active and use their expertise to serve their faith community.

Square dance festival scheduled
Oregon Mid-Winter Square and Round Dance Festival returns this year to the Linn County Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road, Jan. 28-30.
The event will include dancing, shopping opportunities, workshops and fellowship. Cost is $60 per adult for the full festival, $35 for youths. Spectators are welcome to view events at no charge.
Square dance callers will be Ray Gallagher and Grent Mawdsley. Randy and Marie Preskitt will cue round dances and Andy Howard will serve as clogging instructor.

Deadline set for cultural grants
Tuesday, Feb. 1, is the deadline to apply for a grant from Linn County Cultural Coalition to fund projects and activities that involve and promote arts, humanities, historical heritage activities, community pride and creative expression throughout Linn County.
Grants are typically awarded in the range of $250 to $2,500. Be aware that your organization may not be awarded the full amount requested. Most LCCC past grant awards have not exceeded $1,000.

After 5 group returns Feb. 8
After 5 Connection returns Tuesday, Feb. 8, with the “How Sweet It Is” dinner and special program, set from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
Retired teacher and current travel agent Pam Pingle will be the guest speaker. She will discuss ways to “weave the good and bad times into the tapestry of our lives.”
A special feature will be Lacomb resident Sonja Jorgenson, who will share stories about launching her Lebanon-based business, Sprinkle Barn Sweets, which prepares custom cakes and cookies for special occasions.
Cost is $15, which includes everything. Credit cards cannot be accepted.

Submit entries for photo contest
The Albany Visitors Association is sponsoring its 15th Annual Albany Photography Contest.
The purpose of this contest is to find images suitable for use in the coming year’s marketing materials for Albany and Linn County. Photographers will get photo credit whenever possible.
Many of the photos will be used in advertising and the official Albany Visitor Guide that is printed each year. There are 20,000 Albany Visitor Guides printed annually that are sent all over the country and the world. Images will also be used on the AVA website, social media platforms and print marketing.
The contest is open to photographers of all skill levels. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded to winners in each of six categories Culinary, Events, Historic Albany, Landmarks, People and Scenic. A first-place prize will also be awarded in the Student category.

OSU sets winter career fairs series
Oregon State University has announced its slate for its Winter Term Career Fair series, with multiple events scheduled for February 2022.
The virtual Winter Civil and Construction Engineering Fair, which attracts some 70 employers in those fields, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. Sign up for the event at https://bit.ly/3IbXjpv.

All aboard for a Ladies Night Out
The Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam, in conjunction with the Santiam Excursion Train, is sponsoring a Ladies Night Out from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Plans for the evening include shopping, silent purse action, drinks, dinner and music, all aboard the Santiam Excursion Train. The event is a fundraiser for girls served by the club.

Highway 20 work to stall traffic
The Oregon Department of Transportation has commenced work on safety improvements to Highway 20 between Albany and Corvallis.
Phase 1, which covers the area from west of Garland Nursery to the Bowers Slough Bridge, is expected to be completed by August 2023. The first week includes surveying and restriping the full project area.
Drivers should expect nighttime work with a single lane of traffic using flaggers and pilot cars to control the work zone. There may be up to 20 minute delays.
Work will continue over the first few months near Independence Highway on the south side of Highway 20. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures during evenings between Sunday and Friday.
