Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The menu on Friday, Jan. 6, is an herbed chicken patty or meatloaf with gravy, garlic whipped potatoes, stewed tomatoes, seven-grain bread and a lemon bar.

The menu on Monday, Jan. 10, is orange-glazed chicken or roast pork with gravy, brown rice, a San Francisco vegetable blend, carrot raisin salad and hot, spiced peaches.

The menu on Tuesday, Jan. 11, is a turkey salad or egg salad half-sandwich, minestrone soup, confetti coleslaw, whole wheat bread and pineapple tidbits.

Focus group set on health in city

The Sweet Home Health Committee, in partnership with Western University School of Health Sciences, will hold four focus-group meetings in January to seek community input on the health of the city.

Student doctors from the university will conduct these sessions at 6 p.m. Jan. 10, 11, 17 and 18 at the Sweet Home Police Department, 1950 Main St. Participants will be asked five to 10 open-ended questions about health care and health-related issues.

Each focus group will be limited to eight individuals.

Local Democrats to hold meeting

The Linn County Democratic Central Committee will hold its biennial reorganization meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Albany Public Library, 2450 14th Ave. SE.

Elected Democratic precinct committee persons in Linn County are eligible to vote for local party officers including the chair, vice chairs, treasurer, ambassador and secretary. Elected and appointed precinct committee persons in Linn County are eligible to vote for State Central Committee and Congressional Committee delegates and alternates.

Genealogy group to talk pilgrims

The Lebanon Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, in the Lebanon Public Library meeting room at 55 Academy St., Lebanon.

Beth Lambright will speak, shedding new light on the pilgrims.

The meeting is open to the public and is free.

SH prayer walk this Saturday

ONE Sweet Home will hold its second prayer walk from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning at Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave.

Participants will meet at the park, where they will receive a “target area,” then divided into groups to walk (or ride) before returning to check in and debrief.

Trail-connection walk in Lebanon

Build Lebanon Trails will host a community walk along a proposed trail connection between Boulder Falls Inn and Had Irvine Park at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7.

The route will begin at the north end of the parking lot at Boulder Falls, 505 Mullins Way, skirting the Reflection Pool and Japanese Gardens before crossing the Samaritan Campus at the Dr. Thad Nelson Trail along the Santiam Canal leading to North Williams Street. The walk will then examine the 2023-24 proposed trail project that will connect the Samaritan Campus to Had Irvine Park and the Marks Slough Trail Loop.

The return to Boulder Falls will be along the same route.

Parts of the walk are not rated as fully accessible and may cross dirt, grass and uneven surfaces.

After 5 schedules Jan. 10 program

Local women are invited to After 5 Connection’s January dinner and program, to be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.

Steve and Debbie Poole, owners of Seasonings and More, will discuss how to best use seasonings to make foods more enjoyable. They will also give a presentation of other items they sell, including extracts, teas and coffee blends.

Guest speaker DeAnn Chambers, of Newberg, will tell her story about the love between a father and daughter, a tale of forgiveness and reconciliation.

Cost is $18, which includes dinner. Credit cards cannot be accepted and reservations are required.

Woodland group meets Jan. 21

The Linn County Small Woodlands Association annual membership meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the ZCBJ Hall, 38704 N. Main St., Scio.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, annual meetings have been handled through postcards sent to members. With health restrictions eased, the board of directors decided earlier this month to renew the tradition, which usually features a potluck dinner, door prizes, 4-H presentations, a business portion and auction. This year, according to Board President Tim Otis, will include Powerpoint presentations honoring the past three “tree farmers of the year.”

Bowling event set as benefit

A New Year, New Life Bowling Bonanza to benefit the victim of a construction accident will take place Monday, Jan. 22, in Lebanon.

Participants can contact InSpirit Marketing for details at (541) 791-2901 or accounting @inspiritmarketing.com for details and to sign up to sponsor a lane. Cost to sponsor a lane is $600, with two or more available at $500 each. Eighteen lanes are available.

Proceeds will go to Josh Grant, who was injured by a 16-ton beam. A down payment on a 2012 Toyota Sienna wheelchair-accessible van, which will cost $22,000, has been made.

Health network sets meeting

Faith Community Health Network will meet from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Health Occupations Center, 300 Mullins Drive, Lebanon.

Participants will discuss challenges and successes and map out group events for the upcoming year to build skills and move things forward in local faith communities.

There is no charge to participate.

Faith Community Health Network has trained faith community nurses in four congregations in Lebanon, plus three who are trained but unaffiliated with a congregation. It has also trained faith community nurses in two congregations in the Albany area, and one trained health minister in another.
