Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The center is closed Friday, Nov. 26, in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The menu on Monday, Nov. 29, is beef sloppy joes or pork choppie with barbecue sauce, baked beans, chuckwagon corn, a hamburger bun and caramel apple pudding.
The menu on Tuesday, Nov. 30, is a beef cabbage bake or macaroni and cheese, zucchini with red peppers, spinach Romaine salad, an onion roll and fresh apple slices.

Deadline for youth basketball sign-ups
The Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam is accepting registrations for the late winter basketball season through Monday, Nov. 29.
The cost is $145 for fifth- and sixth-grade players, and $155 for players in the seventh and eighth grades.
Practices begin Monday, Jan. 3, the same day season schedules are released. Games are scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 17.

SHEM accepting Christmas boxes
Sweet Home Emergency Ministries is accepting applications for Christmas boxes until Sunday, Dec. 4.
SHEM coordinates these boxes for the needy with community partners, including churches and civic organizations.
Applications are available from a box in front of the SHEM building at 1115 Long St. or at the webpage at http://shemfoodbank.org.
Leaf collection continues
The City of Sweet Home is collecting leaves on city streets through Friday, Dec . 17.
Residents are asked to put loose leaves in piles on the street, away from parked cars and a foot away from the curb to allow for water drainage. Leaf piles should be larger than a 90-gallon debris can and must not contain limbs, yard debris or any type of bagging materials.
City crews will collect the leaves upon request.

Join Sweet Home Lights Tour
Sign-ups are available to participate in the upcoming 2021 Sweet Home Lights Tour, slated for 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.
All entries will be eligible to win People’s Choice and/or Realtor’s Choice prizes.
The $20 entry fees are due by Monday, Dec. 6.

Breakfast courtesy of Supper Club
Angila Tack Food Services’ Supper Club, in the former Wells Fargo building at 1266 15th Ave., will host free breakfast for local residents from 8 – 11 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 25.
Participants will also have the opportunity to donate to the Sweet Home Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Sharing Tree (for children newborn through 12 years old) and the Sweet Home Police Department’s Teen Sharing Tree program for teens and its Shop with a Cop program.
Free turkey dinner at Elks Lodge
The Sweet Home Elks Lodge has partnered with The Point Restaurant & Lounge to provide a free turkey dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, at the lodge, 440 Osage St.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all meals will be available for drive-through pick-up only at the lodge’s lower front entrance. No dinners will be served inside. One meal will be available per person, with a delivery option.
Donations will be gladly accepted at the event for the Sweet Home police and fire departments’ childrens programs.

City tree lighting ceremony Dec. 1
Join city officials and resident for the lighting of Sweet Home’s Christmas tree at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1.
SHHS ski club fundraiser Dec. 2
Sweet Home High School’s Ski and Ride Club will present the Warren Miller film “Future Retro” and a silent auction at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, in the Commons Area at the high school, 1641 Long St.
Auction items include Hoodoo passes and merchandise, lumber and bark dust from Weyerhaeuser, and gift certificates/baskets from Parrish Land Clearing, Sayer Farms, Holy Cow Butcher, Tolman Dentistry, Wolthuis Dentistry, Thriftway, Les Schwab, Ace Hardware, Safeway, The Rio, OK Country Feed, P3D, Hevi Shot, Growler Cafe, All Star Pizza, Crocker’s Cars, O&M Point S Tires and A&W.
Sharing Tree program continues
The Sweet Home Volunteer Firefighters Association is conducting its annual Christmas for Kids Sharing Tree Program.
Children up to age 12 are eligible.
Parents who wish to have their child’s name placed on the Sharing Tree should fill out a request form, which can be found online at forms.gle/k3eKS6zxqura8eP39 or picked up by Dec. 3 at the Sweet Home Fire District office, 1099 Long St. Deadline for returning paper forms is Dec. 3. Online forms are submitted automatically.
Cash donations for the Christmas For Kids Sharing Tree toy program may be made at the office. All cash donations will be used to purchase toys and needed clothing for local children. The names of children and families needing assistance have been placed on the tree at the Fire Department.
Anyone interested in “adopting” a family should contact the Fire District office at (541) 367-5882 and leave a message on the Sharing Tree voicemail.

Take part in Shop with a Cop
The Sweet Home Police Department is accepting applications for its Saturday, Dec. 4, Shop with a Cop program.
The event is open to Sweet Home children aged 4 to 12. Participants must be present and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children should also live within the Sweet Home School District boundary.
During Shop with a Cop, children will receive a credit to shop at Bi-Mart with police officers. In addition, they’ll meet Blue Santa and members of the Sportsman’s Holiday Court, who will assist in wrapping gifts.

Sweet Home tree auction set Dec. 4
The Sweet Home Alumni Foundation is hosting its 18th annual decorated tree auction, “It’s a Country Christmas,” scheduled for 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, in the gymnasium at the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam, 880 18th Ave.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction featuring holiday gifts, baked goods, handcrafted itsems, and themed baskets, followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. and the live tree auction at 7:30 p.m.
Dinner seat reservations are $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight. Reservations are required.
Decorated trees for the auction can be donated, as can silent auction items or themed baskets. Trees can be sponsored for $400.

All proceeds from the auction support college scholarships from graduating Sweet Home High School seniors.

B&G Club to hold warehouse sale
The Lebanon Boys & Girls Club will hold a holiday warehouse sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the club’s headquarters.
Items for sale have been donated by Lowe’s Distribution Center in Lebanon. Items include flooring, tile, home improvement, bathroom, hand tools, power tools, small electronics, décor and yard and garden.
Funds raised go directly to support scholarships for children participating in Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Santiam programs and services.

Holiday store set for youth
The seventh Christmas Store for Sweet Home kids ages 2 and 12 will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hope Church, 890 Mountain View Road.
The free event is for children and their families. Personal shoppers take them to each gift table, and presents are wrapped for placement under the family Christmas tree at home.
