Art Guild offers display, classes
Linn County Arts Guild invites local artists and crafters to be vendors in its 8th Annual Holiday Gift Store, through Dec. 24.
Visit the guild’s Gifts & Gallery Store at 605 Main St. in downtown Lebanon to pick up an application or visit http://www.LinnCountyArtsGuild.com.
The guild is also offering wirewrapped jewelry classes, taught by Catherine Stauffer, on Dec. 7 and 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The first session will focus on how to work with wire, and participants will work on and finish their pieces in the second, also at the store.
Students should bring their own needle-nosed pliers. All other materials are provided. Cost is $45, which includes both sessions.

offer gift options
Both the Sweet Home Police Department and the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District are continuing to collect gifts for their annual Christmas tree programs for local children.
The fire department’s Christmas for Kids Sharing Tree Program focuses on children from infants to 12 years old, while the Police Department ‘s Teen Blue Santa Christmas Tree serves young people ages 13-17.
Those wishing to take a star off one or both trees can purchase, wrap and deliver a gift no later than Dec. 12 to ensure prompt delivery to the recipient before Christmas.

Christmas tree permits available
U.S. Forest Service Christmas tree permits are available at the Sweet Home Ranger District office, 4431 Highway 20.
Permits are $5 each. They allow the holder to cut one tree in designated areas. Each household can purchase up to five permits. Fourth-graders who have an ”Every Kid in the Park” pass (www.everykidinapark.gov) qualify for a free tree permit.
Tree permits are also available from Bi-Mart in Lebanon and Sweet Home, Coffee Hut, DanDee Sales and the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce in Sweet Home.
Be prepared for the unexpected. Dress in layers, bring proper equipment (handsaw or axe, tire chains and a shovel). Bring extra food, drinking water, blankets, a flashlight and a first aid kit. Let a friend or family member know your plans before you leave. Get an early start and leave the woods well before dark.

Movie to raise
funds for ski club
Warren Miller’s “Children of Winter” ski movie will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at The Rio Theater.
The event is a fund-raiser for the new Sweet Home High School Ski and Ride Club, which is being formed.
Admission is $5, which includes chances to win door prizes. A $5 raffle for Hoodoo ski passes and other prizes will be held as well.

‘Christmas Carol’ performance Dec. 1
Sweet Home Library will host Man of Words in a performance of “A Christmas Carol in Prose” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at 1101 13th Ave.
Oral interpreter Rickie Birran is a former college speech instructor and author of “Suit the Action to the Word: The Art of Reading Aloud.”
As Man of Words, he uses the theatrical, musical, and storytelling arts to bring reading and literature to life – to enrich, encourage, enlighten, and entertain.

LBCC choirs to perform Thursday
Linn-Benton Community College’s fall choral concert “Wrapped in Wonder” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Conducted by LBCC Choral Director Raymund Ocampo, the concert features the college’s award-winning Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and the vocal a cappella groups Blue Light Special and The Sirens. Kristin Rorrer will accompany on piano.
Choral works to be performed include “O Holy Night,” “The Gartan Mother’s Lullaby,” “We Three Kings,” “Izar Ederrak,” and “What a Wonderful World.” The a cappella groups will perform works by Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, a-ha, and Earth, Wind and Fire.

LHS theater to
stage ‘Elf’ version
Lebanon High School Musical Theater students will perform “Elf, The Musical Jr.” at 7 p.m. nightly Dec. 1-3 at the high school auditorium.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.
A special meet-and-greet with Santa and the cast will be Friday, Dec. 2 only. Tickets for that event are $10 each or $20 for a family of four (each additional ticket is $5). Ticket prices include photos with Santa, hot cocoa/cider, treats and admission to the show.

LBCC to kick off
50th anniversary
A kick-off celebration for Linn-Benton Community College’s 50th Anniversary will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the college Commons cafeteria, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.
Founding college board member and local businessman Russell Tripp will attend the kickoff along with other community members. Birthday cake and refreshments will be served.
On Dec. 6, 1966, Linn and Benton county voters approved a bond to establish LBCC as Oregon’s 11th community college.
The first classes were held fall term 1967, with students attending classes throughout the city. They came to call themselves “Roadrunners,” as they were often “running” from one class location to the next.
LBCC now has campuses in Albany, Corvallis, Lebanon and Sweet Home, and has become a national leader in education and workforce development with cutting edge degree programs, career technical education programs, business development classes and community education classes.

Fund-raiser sale at Pregnancy Center
Sweet Home Pregnancy Center will hold a pre-Christmas fund-raiser sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at 1344 Main St.
Organizers are collecting new and gently used items, as well as recruiting volunteers for the event. Donations can be dropped on Monday and Wednesday during normal hours of operation.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.Suggested donation is $3.50.
All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The lunch menu on Friday, Dec 2, is BBQ chicken sandwich or fish patty sandwich, both on a bun, mixed vegetables, sunshine salad and peanut butter bar.
The menu for Monday, Dec. 5, is homestyle turkey patty or beef Swiss-style patty. whipped potatoes with gravy, seasoned carrots, potato wheat bread and chocolate almond pudding.
The menu for Tuesday, Dec. 6, is beef and cabbage bake or macaroni and cheese, broccoli, Romaine iceberg salad, onion roll and fresh orange.
