Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Oct. 21, is macaroni and cheese or chicken parmesan, a San Francisco vegetable blend, a garden vegetable salad, an oat bran wheat roll and carrot cake.
The menu on Monday, Oct. 24, is a lasagna roll-up in marinara sauce or king ranch chicken bake, an Italian vegetable blend, corn salad, a whole wheat roll and snickerdoodle bar.
The menu on Tuesday, Oct. 25, is Bavarian stew or chicken and noodles, a Scandinavian vegetable blend, marinated zucchini salad, an oat bran roll and seasonal fresh fruit.

Cyclist to speak at low-vision event
Local blind and deaf cyclist Richard Hagan will speak at the Wednesday, Oct. 19, meeting of the Mid Valley Low Vision Support Group at Brookdale Grand Prairie Senior Living, 1929 Grand Prairie Road, Albany.
The event begins at 2 p.m.
Hagan cycled 5,000 miles from Yorktown, Va., to Florence, accompanied by two guide cyclists and meeting a goal of cycling through seven states, several national parks and many small rural communities.
He will detail how he endured the three-month trip on the TransAmerica bike tour.
The Mid Valley Low Vision Support Group is a self-funded nonprofit organization that has met since 2015. There are no membership fees, and all are welcome to attend.

Samaritan plans flu vaccinations
Samaritan Health is offering a drive-through flu vaccination event for Samaritan patients Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Sweet Home Family Medicine, 679 Main St.
Anyone who has visited a Samaritan health care provider – whether in a clinic, hospital, laboratory or imaging test – and has a Samaritan Health Services medical record is eligible. Those who are unable to take part are encouraged to consult with his/her primary care provider about a vaccination, or to visit Samaritan Pharmacy locations in Albany, Corvallis or Lebanon.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older receive a flu vaccination. It is especially important for people with a higher risk of health complications, hospitalization or death from influenza. People at higher risk include those who work in health care, have a chronic health condition or are over age 65, but everyone is encouraged to get vaccinated.
Regular and high-dose flu vaccines will be available for ages 6 months and older and no appointment is needed. Everyone older than 2 years of age is asked to wear a face mask.
A Lebanon event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at 35 Mullins Drive, next to Samaritan Urgent Care.

Arts Center hosts photo exhibit
The Arts Center is hosting “Through a Veteran’s Lens,” highlighting photographic works from veterans in Linn, Benton and Lincoln counties at its location, 700 SW Madison Ave., Corvallis.
The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 12.
An evening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, followed by an Art for Lunch event at noon Thursday, Nov. 3.
The exhibit is a partnership between The Arts Center, Samaritan ArtsCare, Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Red Feather Ranch.

History program at Lebanon library
The Lebanon Museum Foundation will present its first post-pandemic public program on local history at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Lebanon Public Library, 55 Academy St.
The event is free and open to the public.
Representatives of local women’s clubs, Madeleine Cariati, Betty Adams, and Sally Morgan will tell the stories of their respective groups: the Women’s Study Club, the Present Day Club, and PEO Chapter V.
The panel will also discuss other long-lived local women’s clubs and the reasons some have thrived for so long. Scrapbooks from the Lebanon Junior Women’s Club and the Lebanon Senior Women’s Club will be on display.

Share a story for Lebanon museum
The Lebanon Museum Foundation has begun its first oral-history project, with the aim of collecting stories from the town’s past in the form of audio interviews. Anyone who has lived in Lebanon for approximately 75 years or longer is encouraged to volunteer.
Ten will be recorded by the end of this year. Future oral-history projects will likely follow, perhaps on specific topics and more recent events.
The completed interviews will be available at the Lebanon Public Library as well as the future Lebanon Museum.

Fresh-pressed apple cider event
Kids of all ages are invited to help make apple cider from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site, 32655 Boston Mill Drive, Shedd.
Unlimited cider tasting and half-gallon jugs will be available for a $5 contribution to Thompson’s Mills Preservation Society. Apples are provided by Riverwood Orchards, but visitors are invited to contribute apples from their own trees, as well.
Docents will be on hand for mill tours.
Admission is free and picnic tables are available on the grounds.

Lebanon’s Bazaar Weekend Nov. 4-5
Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, is Lebanon’s annual bazaar weekend.
— The River Center will host its 10th annual Holiday Craft and Gift Fair from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at 3000 S. Santiam Hwy. (next to Wilco, behind Pizza Hut).
Approximately 40 spaces have already been reserved and vendors will be offering a nice variety of hand-crafted and other gift items including baked goods, soaps, jams and syrups, doll clothes, natural fiber hats, basketry and beading, wood and metal work, candles, cards, jewelry, artwork, etched glass and more.
Admission is free. Food will be available for breakfast and lunch, and door prizes will be given out.
Other events are planned for Restoration Boutique, St. Edward’s Catholic Church, United Methodist Church, Santiam Place, the Knitty Gritty, and Linn County Arts Guild Gift and Gallery store.
Fliers detailing those events will be available for customers at the River Center information booth.

Lebanon library to host ex-ranger
The Lebanon Genealogical Society will host longtime U.S. Forest Ranger Rolf Anderson at its monthly meeting at 13:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the meeting room of the Lebanon Public Library, 55 Academy St.
Anderson, a retired ranger in this area, will speak on “Historical Site – Fish Lake.” The meeting is open to the public and is free.
‘Elf: The Musical’ comes to Corvallis
A production of “Elf the Musical “ is scheduled for Nov. 4-20 in the Starker Auditorium at the Majestic Theatre, 115 SW 2nd St. in Corvallis.
Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10-11 and 17-18. Matinees begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20.

Ulep fundraiser scheduled Nov. 12
A fundraiser for Braulio “Sonny” Ulep will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the River Center, 3000 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
The Lebanon resident was diagnosed three years ago with chronic kidney disease and has been scheduled for a kidney transplant in January at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. The goal is to raise $10,000 to cover hotel costs for Ulep and his cousin for a month, transportation costs and airfare from Hawaii for the cousin and his mother.
Tickets cost $25 and include a Hawaiian-style dinner, live music with Polynesian entertainment and access to a silent auction.

LAFTA holds auditions for show
The Lebanon Association for Performing Arts will hold auditions for its Christmas show starting at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 14 and 15, at the auditorium in Lebanon High School, 1700 S. Fifth St.
Rehearsals for the show will be Dec. 7 and 8, with the sole performance on Friday evening, Dec. 9.
The theme of the variety show will be “Christmas through the Decades” so those auditioning should plan along those lines. An accompanist will be available, but “canned” music is acceptable. Auditioners should make sure they bring their recorded music so it can be checked with the system, or sheet music if live accompaniment is needed. Poems, readings, and short skits are acceptable.
Backstage help is also needed.

Sparkle Bazaar returns Nov. 18-19
The Holiday Sparkle Bazaar will return for its fifth year on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18-19, at the American Legion, 1215 Pacific Blvd SE, Albany.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
Vendor space is still available for crafters, creators of edible specialties, and home-based business representatives. The event is sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Albany Unit 10, with proceeds used to provide scholarships for Albany-area high school girls.
