Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Sept. 16, is an herbed chicken patty with gravy or barbecued smokehouse chop, colcannon potatoes, brussels sprouts, focaccia bread and seasonal fruit.
The menu on Monday, Sept. 19, is a beef cabbage bake or chicken pomodoro, a San Francisco vegetable blend, tossed salad, a white dinner roll and lemon pudding.
The menu on Tuesday, Sept. 20, is a homestyle turkey patty or beef patty, both with gravy; whipped potatoes; broccoli; garlic bread and cranberry fluff.

Hwy. 20 closed through Sept. 20
The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced that Hwy. 20 will be completely closed through Sept. 20 for landslide repair work between mileposts 55.4 and 56.2, east of House Rock Campground.
Daytime closures will continue through October.
ODOT plans to build a retaining wall and to realign and reconstruct a portion of the road that has been damaged by landslides between mileposts 56 and 56.2.
It also plans to improve the road surface in portions between mileposts 55.4 and 56.2.
When the road is reopened, work will require daytime single-lane closures from 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, through October.
Traffic will be controlled by flaggers between mileposts 54 and 57.
Schedules are subject to change, particularly due to wildfires.

Foster Dam Road closed Sept. 14
The road over Foster Dam will be closed through Sept. 14 for work on the dam.
Closures will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Work will be done on the spillway gate and the fish weir will be removed.

Art and wine walk in Lebanon
Lebanon Downtown Association will hold an Art and Wine Walk from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. Purchase a wine tasting package at the LDA office, 680 S. Main St., where the walk will start.
The $15 package includes four tasking tokens, on wine glass and a Wine & Art Walk passport. Participants must be 21 or older.
Participants will stroll through downtown shops and restaurants enjoying the night with friends and the downtown community. Downtown restaurants will provide delicious hearty hors d’oeuvres at each wine-tasting location.

Rollin’ Oldies revs up Sept. 17 car show
Rollin’ Oldies car club will once again host its 30th Car Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at River Park, 1235 E. Grant St.
After a COVID-19 hiatus, the show returns with a wide range of makes, models and years of cars, pickups and military vehicles.
Admission is free for spectators. Drawing will be held, and food, beverages and vendors will be at the event. Musician Russ Stoh-meyer will perform.

Taste tomatoes in Lebanon
Master Gardener Sheryl Casteen will host Tomato Fest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
The event features not only the beloved fruit, tomatoes to taste, but also several 10-minute talks on hot water canning, pressure canning, slow-cooker harvest recipes, food drying, preserving foods for freezers and answers to general gardening questions. Heirloom tomatoes that are not normally sold in stores or nurseries will also be available at the event.
All 10-minute talks, recipes and reference books will be sent to attendees digitally. An OSU Master Food Preserver will be in attendance, as well, to answer canning and/or preservation questions.
Square dancing returns Sept. 18
Lebanon Square Circlers will resume starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Lebanon IOOF Hall, 20 Ash St.
No partner is required to participate. Dancing will continue until 8 p.m.
Organizers point out that modern square dance is a great way to get low-impact exercise, stimulate the brain, and just plain have a lot of fun in a family friendly, smoke and alcohol-free environment.
No previous dance experience is necessary, and families are especially welcome! Those folks now enjoying line and contra dancing are also invited to come check out this brand of American Folk Dancing as well.
Each class costs $6 per person or $15 for a family of three or more. The first class is free.

New Hope hosts Ted Pearce events
New Hope Church will host a concert by Ted Pearce from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at 37180 Gore Drive, Lebanon.

Sign up for Citizens Academy
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its Fall Citizens Academy.
Sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Sept. 14 through Nov. 30. A Sunday “field trip” will also be planned to a firearms range.
Participants receive classroom instruction and hands-on training in areas such as patrol, detectives, corrections, firearms, defensive tactics, traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations, swift-water rescue and dive recovery, prisoner transport and search-and-rescue.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age; however, applications will be considered for those as young as 16, provided they take part with a parent or guardian.

Cascadia State Park commemoration
The public is invited to attend a ceremony commemorating the transfer of ownership of Cascadia State Park to the Linn County at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the park.
The day will also recognize the re-establishment of U.S. Postal Service to the Cascadia community. A covered bank of mailboxes has been established on property owned by the U.S. Forest Service.
Cascadia County Park sits on the South Santiam River and is surrounded by old growth Douglas fir. It is near the historical Cascadia Caves, a site used for centuries as a gathering spot by Native Americans. The park offers 22 first come, first served campsites, group tent sites and a picnic area.
Parenting class scheduled Sept. 27
A free “Parenting Today Forward: Foundations” class will be held from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the New Life in Christ Fellowship, 1266 44th Ave.
The session and support group focuses on families or individuals with children or teenagers.

Vaping effects topic of session
Linn Together is holding a community training session, “Behind the Cloud,” from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Boulder Falls Inn Event Center, 605 Mullins Drive, Lebanon.
Dr. Michelle Peace, a forensic scientist and associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, will discuss the effects of vaping on youth.

Harvest Festival coming Oct. 1
Mark your calendars for the Sweet Home Harvest Festival, scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave.
The event will include pumpkin painting, tree-climbing, Kid Zone games, wagon rides, face-paintng and a photo booth, as well as the chili cookoff and pie bake-off contest.
Admission for the chili cookoff is $5 per person or $10 per family, with a limit of six people per family. A ticket will be provided as proof of purchase for general admission, and will serve as as a “voting ticket” for the People’s Choice Award. Attendees can taste pie bake-off entries for a $3 donation.
