Meals on Wheels weekly menu
Meals on Wheels offers take-out lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The menu on Friday, Sept. 30, is orange glazed chicken or beef country-fried steak with gravy, scalloped potatoes, green beans with red peppers, French bread and seasonal fruit.
The menu on Monday, Oct. 3, is white bean chicken chili or spinach strata, broccoli, confetti coleslaw, a white dinner roll and gelatin jewels with whipped topping.
The menu on Tuesday, Oct. 4, is chicken pastina or beef tamale pie, green beans, tossed salad, a rye bran roll and caramel apple pudding.

Farmers markets host fundraiser
Sweet Home and Lebanon Downtown Farmers Markets will hold a Fall Fundraiser Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 1 at the Sweet Home VFW Hall, 580 Main St.
Cost is $15 per person or $17 at the door. Musician James F. Wright will perform.
Menu will be tossed salad served with choice of beef or veggie lasagna, garlic bread, assorted desserts, coffee and water.
A 50/50 raffle and prize raffles will be held.
Advance tickets are available at the farmers markets.
Harvest Festival coming Oct. 1
Mark your calendars for the Sweet Home Harvest Festival, scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave., Sweet Home.
The event will include pumpkin painting, tree-climbing, Kid Zone games, wagon rides, face-paintng and a photo booth, as well as the chili cookoff and pie bake-off contest.
Admission for the chili cookoff is $5 per person or $10 per family, with a limit of six people per family. A ticket will be provided as proof of purchase for general admission, and will serve as a “voting ticket” for the People’s Choice Award. Attendees can taste pie bake-off entries for a $3 donation.

Gardening Q&A scheduled Oct. 11
Learn about gardening at a free Second Tuesday Gardening Q&A from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.

Fresh-pressed apple cider event
Kids of all ages are invited to help make apple cider from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 and 29, at Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site, 32655 Boston Mill Drive, Shedd.
Unlimited cider tasting and half-gallon jugs will be available for a $5 contribution to Thompson’s Mills Preservation Society. Apples are provided by Riverwood Orchards, but visitors are invited to contribute apples from their own trees, as well.
Docents will be on hand for mill tours.
Admission is free and picnic tables are available on the grounds.

Brewery hosts anniversary party
Conversion Brewing will host a seven-year anniversary party and fundraiser in the form of a Brewfest, with an “Oktobeerfest” theme Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, in Strawberry Plaza, 847 S Main St., Lebanon.
Hours will be 5 to 10 p.m. both nights. Games will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with music from 8 to 10 p.m. Jobe Woosely and DTW will perform on Sept. 30 and Gabe Cox will play on Oct. 1.
The event will raise funds for the Boys & Girls Club, which typically benefits from Lebanon’s regular annual Brewfest event, which was canceled earlier this year.
Participants are expected to include Conversion Brewing, Barsideous Brewing, Calapooia Brewing, Deluxe Brewing, Sinister Distilling, Tallman Brewing, Hideaway Distillery, Vivacity Fine Spirits and 2 Towns Ciderhouse.

Local agencies offer treasure hunt
Mid-valley fire departments are hosting their first post-COVID-19 treasure hunts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at each of their stations.
Activities will include vehicle and hands-on-safety displays. Each participant will receive fire-safety goody bags. All stations are accepting non-perishable food donations benefiting FISH of Albany.
Albany locations include Station No. 11 at 611 Lyon St. and Station No. 5 at 3215 NE Transition Parkway (Millersburg), plus the Albany Police Department, 2600 Pacific Blvd. SW. The Tangent Rural Fire Department is also hosting a treasure hunt at 32053 Birdfoot Drive, Tangent.
Museum hosts rock ID event
East Linn Museum will host a rock identification event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at 746 Long St.
Geologist Robert Rosé, a retired Union Oil geologist who lives locally, will be on-site to identify stones and minerals submitted by the public. The event is free.
Blood drive set at high school
Sweet Home High School students will host a Red Cross Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12.

After 5 announces special program
After 5 Connection will host a dinner and special program for local women from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.
Beth and Eli Boggs, owners of Crafty Boggs, a business that specializes in custom pet portraits painted exclusively by Eli Boggs, will talk about what they do. They will share how they use their artistic talents in designing portraits for pet memorials, for pet lovers and as a unique gift idea for birthdays and holidays.
Soloist Janet Nortune of Lebanon will perform.
Guest speaker Lynne Franz, of Hermiston, will speak about how her life has been enriched by the many changes that have come her way.

PEO announces Oct. 15 auction
P. E.O. chapter DD is hosting a Fall Bunco Party and Silent Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Fir Lawn Lutheran Church, 109 W. Holley Road.
A chili or potato soup dinner, the fixings, dessert and prizes are included in the ticket price of $20. Everyone is welcome; RSVPs are requested at (541) 971-1092. All proceeds go to scholarships for local women.
